Roethlisberger Assault Case Keeps Getting Weirder

That’s Andrea McNulty, the alleged victim of a sexual assault by Ben Roethlisberger last July. I know what you’re probably thinking. A cowboy hat? Really?

Questionable fashion sense aside, the case against the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback gets more and more strange by the day. In the past 48 hours, information has finally emerged which sheds some light on the case against Ben.

The Post-Gazette gives a good accounting of the facts as we currently know them. It also bears mentioning that the Sheriff’s Office in Reno is not currently conducting a criminal investigation and will not do so unless a formal complaint is filed by McNulty. Her ambulance chaser lying weasel attorney is reportedly surprised by the media interest this lawsuit has created. Because I’m sure he took a rape case against a high-profile multimillionaire superstar athlete because he prefers to fly under the radar. I hate lawyers.

As far as the case goes, one question I had in my previous post has been answered. Evidently, the eight other defendants are co-workers and bosses at Harrah’s, where McNulty worked and was allegedly assaulted. She’s evidently claiming some vast conspiracy whereby the president of Harrah’s set her up to be assaulted and then the director of security thought it was great.

Maybe I’m missing something but your boss saying “Make sure Ben has a good time” doesn’t exactly translate into “Allow him to rape you.” And I can believe the security guy said, “most girls would feel lucky to get to have sex with someone like Ben Roethlisberger” although that statement could easily be taken out of context.

The thing I’m having the most trouble with is this idea her weasel lawyer floated that “reporting an assault to hotel security is the same as reporting it to the police.” So hotels in Nevada can put you on trial? They can sentence you to jail? If so, I’ll be sure to commit some petty larceny next time I stay at the Vegas Hard Rock. I wouldn’t mind being locked up there for a month or so.

Then there are the damages. McNulty is suing for $380,000 for lost wages and medical bills, primarily due to her having mental issues following the incident. However, there is a report that her coworkers say she had a mental breakdown over a DIFFERENT incident. Evidently, she had an affair with a married military man and his wife found out. So she created a fake online persona and contacted McNulty to find out about the affair. Well, McNulty fell in love with the fake person and when she found out they were fake, she went batshit nuts. Wasn’t this a plot on Days Of Our Lives?

The Fake Online Lover story was reported by TMZ. If you’re unfamiliar with TMZ, that’s the kind of site which thinks upskirt pictures of Britney’s bald cooch constitute “news.” So take what you read there with a grain of salt. Although tabloid reporting sometimes is useful because they’re willing to dig up the dirt legitimate journalists often don’t dare.  And those same journalists are often happy to report it after the fact.

Regardless, the case against Roethlisberger is filled with inconsistencies and perplexing questions. And we haven’t even touched on what the Commissioner might do as Herr Goodell continues his never-ending quest to keep the NFL clean and pure. I’ll continue to update this story as new facts emerge. In the meantime, we’re two weeks from training camp and our nice quiet offseason looks to be a distant memory.

Ahem. Training camp starts in 8 days. ;)

  • http://nicepickcowher.com chris

Noted. :) And it can’t get here soon enough. I’d much rather worry about whose going to win our kick returner than whether Ben has the character of a Dallas Cowboy rather than a Pittsburgh Steeler.

I tend to believe a lot of what TMZ puts out there. As far as gossip sites go, TMZ is generally dead on.

That being said, its frustrating that this wack job is getting the publicity that she so obviously is looking for. Check out TMZ today, there’s a video of her leaving her house, all smiles. Probably because she knows there’s a huge payday in her future, whether her story is true or not. And as we all know, making money is FAR more important than putting a “rapist” behind bars so he can’t hurt anyone else.

  • lisa palombo

the girl is a money hungry whore

  • http://nicepickcowher.com chris

^^^ I’m glad a woman, or at least somebody claiming to be a woman, wrote that.

Robyn – I’ve only read TMZ a few times. I’ve also caught their TV show and it’s always “Watch this video of a Hollywood star stumbling out of a bar drunk!” I know they have exposed some big stories which is why I linked to this one but I would still caution people to remember they aren’t exactly reading the NY Times.

As for McNulty, I agree this is looking more and more like a nutty chick after a money grab. However, I can’t feel totally sorry for Ben because I think it’s pretty clear they did have sex. He doesn’t deserve to be charged with rape and have his rep dragged in the mud but rich athletes know this can happen and he really should’ve been smarter.

  • MidnightWriter

Big Ben looked more shook up at his press conference denying the accusations than throwing that last pass in the air, and waiting for it to to be caught inbounds.

I like Ben Roethlesberger’s heart and drive. And as a Browns fan, hate him of course. No, I do not wish any of this cowgirl rape talk to be true, but I hope the allegations throw Ben and Piss-burg off of their game this season.

But I just wondered: Was Ben at the hotel on that day? Could it have happened? But it’s hard to buy the girl’s claims of suffering from depression afterwards. I mean her job is to flirt and please the guests. Why would she be depressed if she was just doing her job?

Sal Palantonio, where are you when we need someone to find the truth.

  • http://nicepickcowher.com chris

First off, hoping the misfortune of others helps your team win/the other team lose shows a distinct lack of class. So I guess you really are a Browns fan.

Secondly, Cowgirl isn’t claiming the depression is from flirting with Ben, she’s saying it was caused by being raped. If her lawsuit just said flirting, it would be thrown out of court. Now if you don’t understand the difference between flirting, being friendly with guests, and being raped, I would caution all my female readers to stay far far away from Cleveland.

This is the strangest case ever. It is obvious that this woman is crazy. Money Hungry. Whatever. I

f I were Ben I would counter sue for defamation of name and character regardless of whether they had sex or not.. allegations of rape would ruin his name, family, career, and he would be permanently labeled a sex offender.

Sadly guys.. I live in Cleveland, but to be fair, I am from Mercer County PA.. so a die-hard Pittsburgh fan.

At the same time.. this is not a case of team loyalty. This is a person. It has nothing to do with football and his ability. It is an attack and I certainly hope his name will be cleared!

  • Chris 2

Hey guys I just posted on the other Ben “Defiant” blog and just realized there is already a Chris on here. So I am going to be Chris 2 from here on out.

Does anyone think cowgirl will claim that she wore a hat like this when she was impersonating a TV repair person? I think she used it for tips

  • http://nicepickcowher.com chris

Kati – We won’t hold the fact you reside in Cleveland against you. That’s gotta be hard enough as it is. :) Besides, Steeler Nation covers the entire country and many foreign lands so we don’t mind having one in enemy territory.

As for the other part of your comment, Mike Tyson was convicted of rape and Kobe Bryant faced similar allegations, yet both are arguably the most popular people in their sport with fans and advertisers. So I’m not sure this would exactly ruin Ben’s career, financially or otherwise. Especially since the accuser seems so kooky.

As our other commentator from Cleveland proves, though, it will be something Steeler Haters drudge up to insult Ben now and forever. And I don’t think paying her $0 and winning the lawsuit will even change that. And that is definitely unfortunate.

  • Chris 2

    Hey Kati,

I agree with you in that we may see a counter suit here and if Ben is innocent we may see a rare thing here. He may just fight this all the way regardless of the publicity or expense just on principle alone. McNulty appears broke so her attorney most likely picks up the tab for all the lawsuit expenses. The defense is hoping for a nice settlement (90% of civil cases settle out of court) However, Ben may throw in a nice counter suit. This won’t be a lawsuit he files for money since she has none. It will be a lawsuit that is based on principle and will cause her attorney to regret the day he met Ms McNulty. Many people may be looking at it being bad that Ben is wealthy saying he may have to pay out big bucks to nut woman. But don’t forget there is nothing like dragging out lawsuits and causing lots of expenses in the original lawsuit and counterclaim. The defense may end up watching what they thought was a huge sure-thing payday become a money pit. When I say this I am speaking about the plaintiff’s attorney. Yes, Ben has lots of money. However, it may be used to prove that you don’t wrongfully accuse people like this.

  • Chris 2

In prior statement I meant “the plaintiff is hoping for a nice settlement”

  • Michael O

First off this crazy lady did not go to the police after the “rape”. Why if you were raped would you not got to the police, and hospital and have an examination. She did not even bring this issue up for a whole year. Second her credibility is out the window, she would mess around with a married man. One word comes to mind, liar. Unfortanently this is the way our world works now. If you don’t have any money sue somebody then you will have money. I’m not trying to jump to conclusions but why would he have to rape that ugly canadian pig. I mean seriously have you seen this woman. I am not rich but I still would not touch that woman with a ten foot pole. Big Ben can have any woman he wants, why would he choose her. This makes no sence.

  • http://nicepickcowher.com chris

Michael: You’re welcome to your opinions and more than welcome to post here even if I don’t necessarily agree with a few of your statements. I’m going to leave your comment alone but this is a warning to everybody: I will not let this discussion end up in the gutter. Enough with the childish name-calling (especially about her looks).

And for the record, I have little doubt Ben had sex with her. Otherwise he would’ve said “I never touched her” rather than “I never assaulted her.” Although I do think it’s equally clear she’s using the encounter as a way to make some money.

  • Michael O

Chris your right that was totally in pour taste. This has nothing to do about the way she looks and I’m sorry if I offended anyone. What I was trying to put out there was mainly the fact she waited a whole year and never filled a report to the police, and never went to the hospital.

  • http://nicepickcowher.com chris

Michael: Those are all fair points. I have said in prior threads that I have read where it is not at all unusual for a rape victim to not report the crime right away. The trauma is such that many would rather forget it happened than go through even more trauma by being questioned and probed by doctors and the police.

However, waiting an entire year does seem to be curiously excessive. And I agree, when she says she reported the attack to her bosses immediately afterward, clearly that means she wanted something done. When they did nothing, there was no reason not to go the police then. It all seems fishy.

And I appreciate you manning up in regards to your poor choice of words in the previous comment. I’m glad you are doing your part to keep this discussion civil. Thank you.

  • Michael O

Chris your right I heard of victims waiting because they feel shame. But your right it does sound a little strange. As far as manning up,not a problem I read my post and thought the same thing that you did. So I hope everything works out for Big Ben and we can get back the task at hand. Which would be a seventh championship for our beloved Steelers! Goooooooo Steelers!

  • KASEY McCOY

OBVIOUSLY BEN DIDN’T RAPE ANYBODY….. HE COULD HAVE ANY GIRL HE WANTS……….AND HONEY THAT GIRL ISN’T YOU I AM SURE. STOP TRYING TO GET MONEY…..IF YOU WANT A LOT OF MONEY THEN GO STRIP!!!!! BEN I LOVE YOU AND I AM YOUR # ONE FAN………WE SHOULD GET MARRIED….HA HA….NO…SERIOUSLY.CANT WAIT FOR THIS SEASON…….WE ARE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL…..I CAN FEEL IT. UNTIL THEN STAY OFF MOTORCYCLES AND STAY AWAY FROM ALL WOMAN EXCEPT FOR ME♥

  • KASEY McCOY

BEN HERE IS ALSO ANOTHER GOOD IDEA…..YOU SHOULD COUNTER SUE THE HOTEL…….FOR THEY DID NOT REPORT THESE ALLEGATIONS TO AUTHORITY’S. THEY SIMPLY TOLD HER TO LET IT GO. I KNOW YOUR A GOOD MAN…..AND A VERY SEXY ONE AT THAT TO. SO JUST GO ON WITH YOUR LIFE AND WHATEVER YOU DO PLEASE DON’T GIVE HER ANY OF YOUR MONEY. KEEP FIGHTING IT AND YOU WILL SUCCEED. LOVE YOU♥x♥=♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • http://nicepickcowher.com chris

Um, wow. I appreciate the enthusiasm (even though you really need to lay off the CAPS) but man are you going to be upset when you find out Ben did have sex with her. Stay strong, Kasey.

  • http://andbabymakesfourperrine.blogspot.com Kati

I am not a lawyer.. so I couldn’t even begin to figure out how this could or should pan out for either of them.. but I am crossing my fingers that she is just another money hungry jaded one-night-stand.

I am on the other hand a nurse. Like many of you have said.. it is NOT unusual for rape victims to not report the incident. However, more times than none.. it is because they were threatened either with their lives, or with their families, kids.. ect. This was obviously not the case here… which is where the suspicion as to why she waited to long comes in.

  • Susannah

Arghhh!!! This evil gold-digging girl-pimp is really ruining my day, and making a mockery of all the women out there that really HAVE been hurt. Disgusting and harmful thing to do….

  • Susannah

OK…one more comment. I just noticed the picture of girl-pimp and I find it hard to believe my man Ben would need to assault her. Now I know he is embarrassed. I was expecting a woman of Naomi Campbell/Halle/Beyonce/Eva Longoria calibre–but this girl is not attractive at all. (And I phrased that in very polite terms).

  • http://nicepickcowher.com chris

Susannah: Yes, that was phrased politely and I appreciate it. I agree that it seems crazy to think Ben would need to “force himself” on her but on the other hand, ask yourself this. Isn’t it just as hard to believe that in VEGAS, where hot women are literally everywhere, that Ben would choose her as his weekend booty call??

Nothing about this entire case makes sense.
