With no game this Sunday, I’m forced to write about something else. What do guys think about when they’re not thinking about sports? Food, obviously. Since my recipe for Five Alarm Chili isn’t that interesting, I should probably pick something else. Then I remembered my posts on the Ben Roethlisberger lawsuit always seem popular.
Which makes sense what with the Male Triangle of Interest being made up of food, sports, and women. The only problem is there isn’t anything new to report on the Roethlisberger case. The judge denied a motion to dismiss but all [...]

I’ve watched this video twenty times and you know what? It never gets old!
Don’t get me wrong. When it happened, I was not happy. On the contrary, I was concerned because the Pittsburgh Steelers were only up by a field goal. It definitely appeared that the undefeated Minnesota Vikings were closing in on the tie if not the go-ahead touchdown. Then the Steelers defense rose to the occasion, picking off Brett Favre and leading the Black and Gold to glorious victory.
So now I can gloat.
If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you know I’m [...]
The Pittsburgh Steelers handed the Minnesota Vikings their first defeat of the season with an incredible 27-17 victory. That sentence may seem self-explanatory but it doesn’t even begin to cover what happened. In all my years of watching football, I don’t remember a crazier fifteen minutes of football than what occurred in the fourth quarter. Even for a team which seems to make a habit of the thrilling last second comeback, this one will be remembered by Steeler Nation for a long long time.
Things went well for the Steelers in the early going. Adrian Peterson was [...]
This Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers face their first true test of the season. We’ve played a few good teams but in the Minnesota Vikings we will be facing our first legitimate Super Bowl contender. If you wanted a measuring stick as to where this team stands, here is your stick. By Sunday afternoon, we’ll have have some answers concerning what to expect from the Black and Gold in 2009.
With RB Adrian Peterson rumbling behind one of the best offensive lines in the league, Minnesota has ranked in the top five in rushing the past two seasons. Their problem has been [...]
Brett Favre vs. Jason Voorhees
Every spring, there comes a wonderful day when the Pittsburgh Steelers announce their schedule for the upcoming season. I have a ritual where I first scan the list for any of our most hated rivals (Patriots, Iggles, Cowboys). Then I go through each game and mentally evaluate my team’s chance of victory. Of course, this is not an exact science as my preliminary prediction of going 15-1 in 2009 demonstrates.
I bring this up because when I saw the Minnesota Vikings on this year’s schedule, I immediately marked that one down as a W. At the time, the Vikings were being [...]
Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Jeff Reed celebrated Sunday’s victory over the Browns by getting his drink on. Of course, this ended the way Skippy’s drunken escapades usually end. Handcuffs, and not the good kind, for our wayward kicker and embarrassment for the Steelers organization. With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, this latest foolishness probably seals his fate as far as remaining in the Black and Gold is concerned.
This has been a weird year for the Steelers when it comes to running afoul of the law. They can’t just get in trouble, [...]
Week 6 Recap: Dumb and Dumber
The Pittsburgh Steelers continued their dominance over the hapless Cleveland Browns on Sunday, handing them a 27-14 defeat. The ever-generous Steelers tried to hand the Browns a lot more than a loss, committing four turnovers and playing awful special teams. Our Black and Gold have developed a nasty habit of playing to the level of their opposition. These brief fits of stupidity hurt what was otherwise an outstanding effort on both sides of the ball.
Let’s start with the record-setting day by Ben Roethlisberger. Big Ben passed for 417 yards, only the fourth time in Steelers [...]
Know Thy Enemy: Cleve Brownies
Last week, the Pittsburgh Steelers faced off against a downtrodden franchise struggling to climb out of the abyss. This week, the Steelers face another downtrodden franchise, albeit one that seems to be moving in the opposite direction towards rock bottom. The stunning ineptitude of the Cleveland Browns has transformed what used to be one of the greatest rivalries in NFL history into the football version of whack-a-mole.
The Browns featured the second-most anemic offensive attack in the league last year. So what did they do? They traded Joey Porter’s BFF Kellen Winslow to Tampa, lost Donte Stallworth to a season-long [...]
Let’s momentarily put aside the depressing news that Aaron Smith is indeed out for the rest of the season and turn our attention to something else.
Ben Roethlisberger appeared on the The Jay Leno Show on Tuesday night. Which, given your opinion of Mr. Leno, might even be more depressing than the news on Smith. Seriously, does anybody out there find Jay funny? Anybody? I don’t dislike the man with the fiery hatred of a thousand suns like many television bloggers do but I can’t imagine anybody enjoying the Leno Show. “I know, we’ll have Jay talk with some dopey celebrity [...]
The beleaguered Pittsburgh Steelers defense was dealt a crippling blow yesterday when it was announced DE Aaron Smith is likely gone for the next three months. Head coach Mike Tomlin at his Tuesday cliche-fest press conference said Smith suffered a torn rotator cuff during Sunday’s game against the Lions. No specifics were given on exactly when or how this injury occurred. A torn rotator cuff is an odd injury as outside of quarterbacks and Pittsburgh Pirates #1 draft picks, this is the first time I’ve heard of it in football.
In fact, I neglected to mention anything being awry [...]
