Big Snack Stays On Steelers Menu
With less than a week before the start of NFL free agency, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been busy trying to lock up the players they must retain in order to be competitive next season. Of course, the big (in more ways than one) name of the bunch is nose tackle Casey Hampton. A five time Pro Bowler, Big Snack is arguably the best NT in all of football. In the 3-4 defense favored by Hall of Famer Dick LeBeau, the nose tackle is doubly important. If you don’t have a fatass up the middle to clog up running lanes and [...]
Steelers Post-Season Odds And Ends
Nice shoes, Swanny Catching up with some Pittsburgh Steelers related news I may have missed while digging myself out from Snowmageddon ’10. Super Bowl X MVP and gubernatorial washout Lynn Swann has challenged The Bus to a ten pin smackdown at next year’s Super Bowl. Swann, serving as event host for the Fifth Annual NFL Charities Super Bowl Celebrity Bowling Classic, welcomed more than 40 ex-NFLers in Miami to a benefit for the NFL’s Youth Education Town (YET) initiative. What is it with Steelers and bowling? It can’t be a Pittsburgh thing because I haven’t been to McKnight Lanes in [...]
Pittsburgh Still A City Of Champions
Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints, the 2009 NFL champions. Despite a two-faced weasel of an owner and a “fanbase” full of bandwagon jumpers, I have to admit that no team is more deserving of the honor this season. The Saints played with heart and passion all year, including in the Big Game where going for it on 4th and goal and then starting the second half with an onside kick were two of the ballsiest moves I’ve seen in a long time. It provided a nice contrast with their opponent, one of the most cowardly and gutless teams [...]
Rock n’ Bowl > Super Bowl
Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force pretty much sums up my feelings on the participants in this weekend’s big game. Without the customary playoff berth for the Pittsburgh Steelers, I had no dog in this year’s post season fight. Still, there were certain outcomes which held my interest. With Dallas or the Ratbirds, I could root for a humiliating defeat. With the Jets or Pittsburgh West Arizona, I had a team I could grudgingly support. If you asked me to pick the worst possible Super Bowl match up, I would’ve been hard pressed to come up with a [...]
