2011 Preview By The Numbers: Steelers against the Cincinnati Bengals

AUTHOR: | IN: Steelers | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

The trouble with the Bengals is that you are never really sure which team you are going to see. Are you going to see the “Who Dey” Bengals of the one-and-done playoff teams from 2005 or 2009; or are you going to see the Bungles of 2010, who found a way to finish last in a division that includes the Cleveland Browns? This team has seen more peaks and valleys than a second-year trig student. (Who’s doing trigonometry humor? This guy, that’s who!)

The Morning Cup of Black and Gold

AUTHOR: | IN: Steelers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Here is Thursday’s edition of The Morning Cup.  Where does Cope rank? The latest NFL mock – Steelers take Mississippi State OT Derek Sherrod.  A very possible pick.  For those curious, Pouncey goes at #19 to the Giants.  The NFL announces it will shell out more bucks towards player benefits, and an interesting commentary on the lockout I found yesterday. Big Ben Poised for a Big Year

AUTHOR: | IN: Steelers | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

Well Ben, you may not think you’re here for our entertainment, but you are. And you’re doing a damn fine job of it, too. The last two years have been statistical bests for Roethlisberger. Though he missed the first four games of the 2010/11 season, he continued to show that he’s one of the leagues elit QB’s, and no matter how hard the NFL tries, and no matter how many times he screws up, he’s not going anywhere. Depending on how you define entertainment, be it a fun distraction or absolute horror, Steelers fans have been “entertained” regularly by our [...]

The Morning Cup of Black and Gold

In Wednesday’s edition of the Morning Cup, Hines Ward advances to the next round early in the results show.  Unfortunately the rest of the show dragged on and Chris Brown didn’t even throw a chair at Carrie Ann or an audience member.  Florida State center-guard Rodney Hudson will meet with the team – his stock is fairly high on the board with other guards, but not good as Mike Pouncey.  Tomlin and assistant headed down to Texas to watch numerous players such as CB Aaron Williams, Chykie Brown and d-lineman Sam Acho.  However, representatives from all 32 teams were there [...]

Rule Changes Good for Steelers?

AUTHOR: | IN: Steelers | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

I must admit I am surprised. With some of the changes the NFL has made to its rule book over the offseason, I have not heard a collective cheer from Pittsburgh all the way out here in State College. Maybe the threat of the season being canceled has subdued fans, but for the first time since I can remember, a rule change/ variation, has impacted the Steelers positively.

Twinkle Toes Ward

Don’t judge.  I figure if I’m going to even write one word one sentence on Hines on Dancing With the Stars, I’m going all in…. One hour and forty seven minutes.  That’s how long I had to sit through Dancing With the Stars before it was Hines’ turn to dance.  To say I was riveted to the TV during this time would be far from the truth, but I went through the paces of watching each contestant.  The focus of the evening was either a quickstep or a jive.  As expected in these early rounds, the dancing was fairly poor [...]

The Morning Cup of Black and Gold

Here is Tuesday’s edition of the Morning Cup.  Dick LeBeau will be honored as an “Inductee of Distinction” by the Western Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, an interesting twist in the NFLPA lawsuit – some retired players joining the suit, the NFLPA also defends its right to decertify and Hines Ward isn’t only just competing in DWTS this offseason. The Rise of the Steelers in Pop Culture. Your Stories Wanted.

AUTHOR: | IN: Steelers | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

You may have noticed that the Steelers are starting to make more appearances in situations other than on the gridiron lately, but the Black and Gold Warriors have been in pop culture for a long time. The real question is why more Steelers are not appearing in ads and on TV, given that the team is arguably the most popular in the NFL, and possibly in American sports. The Morning Cup of Black and Gold

AUTHOR: | IN: Steelers | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Mendenhall cursed? The buzz yesterday and this morning is whether or not Tomlin will run Mendenhall into the ground to the point of major injury a la Willie Parker.  Seriously, that’s all there is out there in the Steelers headline world.  Bouchette first reported it yesterday via his conversations with Tomlin in the Big Easy, and now all the major outlets are taking this story and (excuse the phrase) running with it.  At first I thought, ‘Guys, you’re crazy.  Mendenhall is young.  He’s fine.  Willie was older, and someone can get injured at any point in their career.’  I’m just [...]

The Morning Cup of Black and Gold

Here is Sunday’s brunch edition of The Morning Cup.  Ed Bouchette continues to drink the hater-aid with an article on Tomlin and Mendenhall, and Baylor nose guard Phil Taylor has the Steelers scheduled as one of his stops for team visits.  If you don’t visit Steelers.com much, I suggest you check it out.  There is a four part series on Tomlin as well as a series on all the playoff games the Steelers have ever played (one such clipped here for the Cup).
