2011 Draft: Steelers 6th Rd Williams, 7th Rd Batch
The Steelers picked up OG Keith Williams out of Nebraska as their 6th round pick and RB Baron Batch out of Texas Tech as their 7th rounder. Williams has the tangibles to develop into an adequate reserve and give greater depth for the line. Some scouts think feel that he has starter potential as long as he improves his footwork. Batch is an interesting pick. He doesn’t really have good value as he is slow and he has a problem protecting the football (start your cringing). I’m wondering if Colbert just took a swing in the dark hoping that this [...]
2011 Draft: Steelers’ 5th Rd Pick LB Chris Carter
The Steelers select as their 5th round (162nd overall) pick LB Chris Carter out of Fresno State. Carter is 6′-1″ and weighs in at 248lbs. Carter’s size does come into question but he seems to be that ‘under the radar’ kind of player as a very good pass rusher. A very good candidate for OLB to add depth to Woodley and Harrison.
The Steelers go corner again in the 4th round of the 2011 Draft. At 6’1 and 197 lbs., Allen posses decent speed – a 4.5 and a nice vertical of 35″. With this pick, one must think that Ike Taylor could very well be on his way out of town. That’s not to say that the Steelers won’t try and sign him. The two picks at corner are lowering his free agency value from the Steelers perspective. Whether or not Face Me Ike is ready to deal lower with the Steelers… well… we won’t know that until probably June.
2011 Draft: Grading the Steelers 2nd and 3rd Rounds
Coming into day 2, the Steelers still needed to fill the needs at corner and at the offensive line. If the Steelers had any desire to take Miami corner Brandon Harris that notion was squashed when the Texans traded up ahead of the Steelers in the second round and snatched him up. Did this change who they were going to draft in the second round – only the front office can tell us later. However, it seemed that since Harris was gone the next highest valued player on the board to fill the team’s needs was Florida OT/G Marcus Gilbert. [...]
2011 Draft: Steelers 3rd Round Pick – DB Curtis Brown
The Steelers 3rd round pick and overall is 95th is DB Curtis Brown from Texas. So here is the corner pick we’ve been waiting for. Maybe not the most talented back, but someone the Steelers can develop over a year or two. But he is no way going to fill in at the top of the year. He has press ability and can run with the long ball. He could beef up a bit more, but I’m sure he can hit the weights and gain some mass during camp. And with that pick, the Steelers are done for the night. [...]
2011 Draft: Steelers 2nd pick is Marcus Gilbert
The Steelers 2nd round pick and 63rd overall is OT Marcus Gilbert out of Florida. Ahh, not Pouncey but still a guy from the Gators. This guy has power and good footwork. Pretty much a right tackle only but this is a good pick for someone to step up and help out Big Ben and making some pulling moves to create some holes for Mendy.
Brandon Harris gone, corners dried up for Steelers
The Texans have taken the last of the highly rated corners with Brandon Harris as the 59th pick. Big question now as to who the Steelers will pick at 62nd. I think they could trade down to get more 3rd or 4th round picks.
Lockout Restored
This just in – the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals grants league’s request for temporary stay. More to come as details come out.
Aaron Williams Gonzo, Bengals Take QB
The Patriots and Bills took advantage of the Steelers not going Corner and picked up the two remaining Corners that I thought could really develop in to solid DBs in the near future, Aaron Williams and Ras-I Dowling. I’m dissapointed that the Steelers never had a chance to nab one of these dudes except in the first round, but I am sure they have a nice idea of a solid pick moving forward. This morning I wrote about how it is funny that the Bengals keep bringing in WRs while their starting QB wants to be traded at the threat [...]
Draft Talk Round 1: Heyward, the Bungles, Vikes etc.
*Sigh* Oh, Brady… The draft is always exciting, even when your team is always great and rarely gets a pick early in the first round. And there are always those monster $20 million contracts for guys like Brady Quinn that we can laugh about years later. As Craig said, I’m currently in Mexico touring with A Love Electric, an instrumental Rock/Jazz group. We’re touring MX for three weeks and connecting to the internet can be…well…difficult. With so many little towns outside of Mexico City without running water, it’s hard to imagine most towns are concerned with the internet, let alone [...]
