Big Ben’s Bathroom Decor: Wall of Shame

facebooktwitterreddit

When you think of the average bathroom and how it might be decorated, usually you think of a room with pleasing colors that has a splash of the modern or a throw back to country living.  Some may even think of nautical themes.  Or if you are lucky enough to use my family’s bathroom, you are treated to a picture of my wife and I starring right back at you while you do your business (if you’re a guy).

And, of course, when we think of an athlete’s or celebrity’s bathroom we think of an episode of Cribs – a room with three sinks, showers with double waterfall shower heads, a bathtub that fits four and so much shiny silver you need sunglasses just to see.  So what does someone like Big Ben have in one of his bathrooms?

*Sigh* Yes, Ben does not have a good reputation with bathrooms – but what’s going on in his own could help the Steelers take home that 7th Lombardi Trophy.  After returning from the Super Bowl, Ben took his name plate from his locker that reads, ‘Ben Roethlisberger, Super Bowl XLV,’ and placed it in his bathroom.  He also has the name plates from his two Super Bowl victories, but those are hanging in his game room.  With this losing name plate’s new home, Big Ben hopes that it will stir up the right negative emotions to help him stay focused on making it to and winning SB XLVI.

Ben says:

"To see that every day is just motivation for me to work out, to bust my butt to not let it happen again because I want to be a champion. And, right now, I’m not a champion. The first loser, and that kills me. Until I can get back to that point, I want to remember the pain, and it’s going to burn in me until we can get back and win one. If it never happens, I’ll be killed, but I’m going to do my best to get back there."

I think it’s a great idea to have something around you that will constantly remind you of your failures.  If that’s what motivates you to get out there and be the best quarterback you can be, then more power to yins.

Roethlisberger hopes to be in this league (and probably a Steeler) for another eight season.  If he makes it that long, he will more than likely blow Bradshaw’s numbers out of the water.  But, of course, Ben could care less about franchise career stats – he wants the big one: Super Bowl wins.  And as fate would have it, Bradshaw, along with Joe Montana, have the most Super Bowl wins with four.

Big Ben says he’s not familiar with his career numbers thus far – and I believe him.  He isn’t the kind of quarterback that’s built to rack up the passing stats like Peyton Manning or Tom Brady are.  Ben is built to win games, whether that means only passing for 87 yards with no TD’s until the final drive for the win or a 325 yard and 2 TD spanking over a team like the Browns.  For Ben to solidify himself as one of the elites and all time greats – not just as a Steeler but in the NFL as a whole – he will need those Super Bowl wins to do so.  He exists during the days of Manning, Brady, Brees, Rodgers and Rivers – guys that get 300+ and 3 TD’s on a regular basis.  Super Bowl wins will be his stamp, and he’s going to need all the motivation he can muster to get there, even if that means putting his losing locker room name plate in his bathroom.

Well Nation, let’s hope that Ben goes to the bathroom often between now and February 5th, 2012.  Perhaps he should put it across from the ‘throne’ when he’ll have more time to stare and contemplate…..
