5 Concerns Heading in to the 2011 Season
There are plenty of things to be worried about as we head in to the 2011 season. The following is my list of the top 5 things Steelers fans should be thinking about as we move forward. The order is somewhat arbitrary, as it’s hard to rate these things, but I did my best to explain my choices in detail.
Memorial Day and the Pittsburgh Steelers
If you are regular reader of my posts, you know that my normal Monday posts are about the season just played highlighting the game and the one play that changed each game in favor of or against the Mighty Black and Gold. Today, on this day reserved for remembering and honoring the men and women who have and continue to serve this great nation, I have decided to take a break from the season review and talk about the men who have served and have played for our beloved Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Art Of: Jimmy Pol and His Iconic Fight Song
Along with those iconic Steeler chants “Here we go, Steelers, here we go!” and one that I’m sure we all sang last season after that victory against the Jets “I got a feelin’, Pittsburgh’s goin to the Super Bowl, uhuh!” we have the Iconic Steelers fight song, the Steelers Polka by our favorite Polka star: Jimmy Pol.
Mendenhall and Harrison: A Tale of Two Tweets
If you have followed my posts, you know that I spoke out harshly against Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall when he Tweeted about the death of Osama Bin Laden. I questioned whether or not Mendy should be making remarks implying we should be sympathetic toward the mastermind of thousands of American deaths on September 11, 2001. Earlier this week, James Harrison tweeted that the NFL rules makers are “idiots” for implementing rules that will fine and suspend players, and possibly fine teams, for what the NFL deems “dangerous” hits.
The Morning Cup of Black & Gold
I hope many of you found some thread of truth or sanity in ‘The NFL Hate the Pittsburgh Steelers’ article I wrote yesterday. Apparently most in the local media disagree completely (no surprise there). Mainly, I think, because they just don’t really see what the NFL is ultimately doing, and they don’t really get comment like Harrison’s. I don’t think the hitting is what is pissing him off. I think it’s how the league is handling doling out the punishments for them. If Harrison feels he is being targeted, well of course he’s going to be even angrier at the [...]
Playing with fire!
There is a saying that if you continue to poke a bee’s nest, then eventually you are going to get stung. In this case, Roger Goodell and the NFL represent the bee’s nest, and players such as LaMarr Woodley and James Harrison just continue to poke at them.
Two great teams, both with dynasties in their past, will go head to head in San Francisco this year when the Men of Steel travel out to NoCal. The 49ers dynasty took place immediately after the Steelers won the fourth of their four championships in six years. Their last Super Bowl win was in 1994.
The NFL Hates the Pittsburgh Steelers
What was once a whisper of a conspiracy theory around the league last season, but screamed aloud across Steelers Nation, the NFL is targeting the Steelers unabashedly. In fact, you might say that the NFL hates the Steelers – from the top down.
Book Review: The Ones Who Hit The Hardest
In a strange turn of events, I have actually started reading over the last couple of years. Like, for real. As it turns out, being on the road all the time with a band, be it a 6 hour flight from San Fran to Philly, or an all day drive from Tulsa, OK to Taos NM, there’s always plenty of time to read. And I certainly have enough books laying around to keep myself busy. Like any normal human being, I go to the store and buy a book and it sits by my bed and never gets read. Doesn’t [...]
The Morning Cup of Black & Gold: Ward wins DWTS
Last night, Hines Ward took home the mirrorball trophy where it will sit next to his Super Bowl MVP trophy – or so he told Jimmy Kimmel. The two hour results show was filled with dancing and singing to fill as much time as possible. In the second hour each couple danced their ‘favorite’ dance from the season. Hines and Kym performed a dance from early on in the season – one that got him much acclaim from the audience and judges. Ward was able to improve his footwork and frame a bit and received 10′s from all three judges. [...]
