Ben Roethlisberger’s foot injury has been blown out of proportion

A lot of people have been in an uproar over the recent reports that Big Ben is contemplating having foot surgery this late into the offseason.

I think it’s much to do about nothing.

As the media is starved for anything new to write about besides the lockout, reports that Roethlisberger had played through the season with a broken foot have dominated the headlines.

Roethlisberger said that at times in the end of the season his foot hurt so badly he didn’t know if he would be able to walk at practice. End of the season pains are something that Roethlisberger has gotten used to. With his all-out style of play, Roethlisberger has become known around the league for his fearless approach to the game. With that fearless play we have come to love from big Ben, comes the reality that there are times when he will be playing hurt.

His foot injury did not prevent the Steelers star quarterback from leading the team to its third super bowl appearance with him under center. While I would never question Ben’s assessment of his health, I do not think he was ever in danger of missing any real time.

Roethlisberger said the lockout has given him a little more time than usual to heal up from last season, and he said that he is feeling great. I think Ben will come back this season with a clean bill of health, and with an added incentive to get back to the super bowl.

Not to mention he will be playing with a chip on his shoulder after being ranked the 41st best player in the current NFL by his peers. Despite being only the tenth quarterback with multiple super bowl victories, there were six quarterbacks ranked higher than Ben.

If the lockout was good for anything, it gave many players on the Steelers, including Roethlisberger, a chance to heal up for the upcoming season. I hope this Big Ben story does not get blown too far out of proportion because Ben will be fine.
