Pittsburgh Steeler Free Agency Updates: Why the Black & Gold Are In Trouble

AUTHOR: | IN: Steelers | COMMENTS: None Yet

At 8:30 this morning, ESPN and Adam Schefter reported that Plaxico Burress signed with the New York Jets.  Terms of the deal – one year $3.017 million.  Good for Burress because I feel his worth was slightly less than that coming out of jail at around $2-2.5 million/year.  I didn’t think he would be a good fit for the team if he was anything of his former self of lax effort and play.  Regardless of my own opinions, the Steelers entertained Burress at the St. Vincent campus for the better part of Saturday – breakfast with Tomlin, lunch with Big Ben [...]

PlaxWatch: Burress Still at St. Vincent, contract talks going on???

AUTHOR: | IN: Steelers | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

As of 1:40, Plaxico Burress has been at the Steelers training camp for 6 hours.  He’s visited with many players and appears to look ‘very comfortable’ around the players.  Just a while ago it was reported through some tweet feeds that Burress went up with Ike Taylor and Kevin Colbert.  Ike returned with a signed contract (details of which are still to be made public).  Burress is still up there talking with Colbert. This looks to be very promising that Burress will sign with the Steelers.  He only spent 90 minutes with the Giants the other day.  He’s been around [...]

The Morning Cup of Black & Gold: Plaxico Has Breakfast with Tomlin

AUTHOR: | IN: Steelers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Soon the Burress saga will either come to a close or will be just beginning.  Burress met with Tomlin for some breakfast this morning and it wasn’t just for the good camp breakfast.  I don’t know how this will pan out for either side.  Most of the players feel that he would be an added bonus to the team’s receiving core.  Coaches are pretty mum on the subject.  And, fans are on the fence.  I guess I’m just focusing on the past too much – I remember the Plaxico days and the too oft lax play on the field.  I [...]

Steelers Training Camp Day 2: Flozell cut, Rookies are signed and Dan Rooney spotted

AUTHOR: | IN: Steelers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Day 2 brought more signings and cuts as the players took to the field for the first of position groupings and team drills.  By the time the Steelers hit the field in the afternoon, they were without another offensive lineman.  Flozell Adams was released by the team freeing up over $5 million in the process.  This doesn’t mean that Adams is gone for good – I fully expect the team to offer him a lower paying contract.  Will he take it is another matter.

The End of the Steelers Goal Line Rushing Woes? Is John Clay a Future “Diamond in the Rough?”

AUTHOR: | IN: Steelers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Before I begin the article, I would just like to thank everyone at Nice Pick Cowher for the chance to blog on this site and share my love of the Steelers with other members of Steeler Nation.  Hopefully this will be the first of many blogs I write for this website.  Anyways, here we go: As we all know Training Camp for the Steelers started this Thursday.  That being said, numerous positional battles will be taking place over the coming days.  I am particularly interested in seeing how the Depth Chart shakes out at the RB position for the Steelers.  [...]

Vince Young to Philly? Sproles to Saints, My Take on Plaxico

AUTHOR: | IN: Steelers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Vince Young was released by the Titans not long after they announced to the public that he was not in their plans for the future. It became clear when they drafted Jake Locker in the first round, and then subsequently brought in Matt Hasselbeck in Free Agency. Vince Young has been known as a troubled young man from time to time, though he seemed to be off to solid start in 2009. 2010 brought some turmoil with the team where VY reportedly blew up at his coach Jeff Fisher mid season. Now, it looks like Young could be headed to [...]

The Morning Cup: Pittsburgh Steelers Ink Colon, Scott, and Why I Love Mike Brown

AUTHOR: | IN: Steelers | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Steelers have resigned offensive tackle Willie Colon for five years and $29 million.  They also signed Jonathan Scott.  Right Tackle and Left Tackle.  That doesn’t sound too good for Flozell Adams who more than likely will now be asked to take a pay cut.  And, there is a potential that he may not start with Colon back.  Indeed, Adams played LT for Dallas for over 12 years before he came to the Steelers.  But he is 36 – do you want a 36 year old protecting your franchise QB from his blind side?  Sorry Flo.  Hope you can find happiness [...]

Steelers Camp Day 1: Players react to Plaxico Burress rumors and Matt Spaeth signs with Bears

AUTHOR: | IN: Steelers | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Training camp is in starting to get into full swing.  As I write this, James Walker (who is in Latrobe today) reports that the Steelers are gearing up for the first set of conditioning drills.  Kinda gives me butterflies in my stomach.  Before camp started two more players, Max Starks and ARE became the latest cap casualties.  And now, Matt Spaeth signed with the Bears.  I’m sad to see him go because I thought he was a very solid #2 TE.  Good hands. I think our own Adam is right when he thinks that there is enough room now for [...]

Draft Picks Baron Batch and Others Inked, Woodley Soon

AUTHOR: | IN: Steelers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Reports show that Woodley’s deal is expected to go through later today. It looks like after the cuts made so far (Starks, ARE and others) that the Steelers will have enough Cap room to sign both Willie Colon, who they’ve been in talks with, and Lamar Woodley. Baron Batch was spotted in the lunch room at camp, which means that he’s been inked. Drafted rookies get 4 year deals, and Undrafted Rookie Free Agents get 3 year deals if signed. The Steelers used to prefer to ink the drafted rookies from the 3rd-7th rounds for 3 year deals, but that [...]

The good, the bad, and the ugly from the first few days of NFL free agency

AUTHOR: | IN: Steelers | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Just as it was advertised, the start to the NFL offseason has been a whirlwind of trades, rumors, and “no they didn’ts.” The Steelers have begun to fill some of the holes the team had going into the season, but there is plenty of work still to be done as the black and gold head into training camp today.
