The Morning Cup: Pittsburgh Steelers Ink Colon, Scott, and Why I Love Mike Brown

Steelers have resigned offensive tackle Willie Colon for five years and $29 million.  They also signed Jonathan Scott.  Right Tackle and Left Tackle.  That doesn’t sound too good for Flozell Adams who more than likely will now be asked to take a pay cut.  And, there is a potential that he may not start with Colon back.  Indeed, Adams played LT for Dallas for over 12 years before he came to the Steelers.  But he is 36 – do you want a 36 year old protecting your franchise QB from his blind side?  Sorry Flo.  Hope you can find happiness as a backup or at the most, split time with Colon.

Brad Keisel (with only a small beard… tear 🙁 ) reported to camp yesterday and dismissed any negative implication of teammate James Harrison’s remarks about Big Ben and Mendenhall.  He feels that they were misinterpreted and ‘ mix and match quotes maybe.’  As more and more players return, it’s apparent that (at least on the surface) players aren’t worried about what Harrison said or see it as any danger to the chemistry in the locker room.  That doesn’t mean that coaches and Art II aren’t upset over it.  And, I’m sure they will have something to say directly to him about it.  Final note here on Keisel: In a separate interview he did say that he would bring the big beard back if the team made a deep run.

Mike Brown, owner of the Cincy Bungles, is one of my favorite people.  He makes it so easy to beat up on a team in the same division as the Steelers – both on and off the field.  The move to trade Ocho to the Patriots was surprising, especially since it was for only a 5th and 6th round pick (which I’m sure the Pats will trade off as they usually do when the draft comes around).  But as I thought about it more, it’s just Mikey being Mikey.  He just took his only ‘global’ player and traded him off for peanuts.  I know that Ocho’s numbers have been falling off lately, but he has pretty much made that offense completely anemic without Ocho and Palmer.  Maybe he wanted to get rid of all the ‘mouths’ on the team.  Maybe he is methodically working to get the Bungles to the 1st pick of the draft for next year.  Whatever his motivation, he only continues to frustrate the hell out of his team’s fan base and fills the Black & Gold’s cup with joy.  Keep it up Mike Brown – you are either completely insane or so brilliant we just can’t see it.
