NPC’s 2011 Fantasy Draft Guide: Quarterbacks

Put your bias aside my friends. This is Fantasy Football, and if you can’t handle cheering after Brady throws a TD pass, then you need to get out of the game. Or, you know, don’t play in a league for money.

We continue our NPCFFSAR (That’s “Nice Pick Cowher Fantasy Football Seriously Awesome Recommendations” …but you knew that) with the Quarterback position. The Quarterback position is arguably the most important position in the game. I’m not going to pretend to be a FF expert, but I did finish second in total points in my league last year, so I must be kind of awesome, right?

Anyway, I won’t be numbering these guys as number 1s and 2s and 3s and so on. I am simply going to group the best QBs, and then talk about some sleepers and some back-ups. FF is such a swingy thing, one week Romo can throw for 400 yards and 3 tds, and the next week he’s on the sidelines holding his shoulder. Same with Rivers (*bitter). Most likely, your pick won’t even be there by the time your wrap around pick hits, so I’m giving you lots of options here. Let’s start with the obvious.

Tom Brady – This dude is just stupid good. He is the Michael Jordan of Football, so regardless of how young the dudes are around him (see Ron Gronkowski), these guys are going to play like pros when Brady is throwing them the football. You can always count on Brady for big numbers in terms of yardage and touchdowns, and he won’t be one of those guys (see Michael Vick) who might implode and throw four INTs in a game. Brady is a solid number one pick. Brady finished 2010 with 3900 yards and THIRTY SIX TDs. Yes, that’s an accurate number.

Peyton Manning (Neck Injury!!) – Manning, like Brady, is never going to disappoint when it comes to yards and TDs. He might be the greatest QB that ever lived, so he’s always a solid 1st round pick. That being said, Manning is currently out with a mysterious neck injury. That injury really makes me nervous because Manning has never missed a start in his entire career. That could either mean that this injury is incredibly bad, or that he’ll definitely be on the field week 1, and no sissy neck injury is going to keep him off. That remains to be seen. Until then, pay attention to what happens with the injury. If it’s bad enough, he may still be around in your draft in later rounds, which would mean you could grab him for cheap and hang on to him until he’s ready to rock. Or just blow your first round pick on him. I’m sure he’ll be fine. Manning finished 2010 with 33 TDs and 4700 yards. That’s just ridiculous.

Really? Orton and Cutler are the same player? Granted I don’t play FF, so hopefully you’re just talking about them getting the same points each week, but come on… That is a completely uneducated statement you made. Also uneducated was the “little sissy” name calling. Your foot will most likely be in your mouth after this season.

They have nearly identical numbers, they play for the teams each other used to play for, and they’re both sissies. I stand by it. They’re the same person. And frankly, I don’t really care whether Cutler does well this season. Unless I end up drafting him in one of my leagues.

I would like you to explain why you think Cutler is a sissy, unless your only argument is his injury (you can save your breath if that’s all you’re going to say).

@diberard That is literally all I was going to say. Don’t take it personally, this article was meant to be fun and light-hearted. Fantasy doesn’t matter, and I tried to convey that in my tone of voice while writing.

I know, but I gotta defend my guy… he’s taken a lot of heat lately. Now, if only the Bears had more than one consistent receiver (Bennett), then Cutler would be a huge fantasy score this year… OL looks much improved, and Cutler looks to be taking things more seriously this year (dropped 15 lbs and improved his footwork during lockout).

I love fantasy football. But I am starting to realize that my girlfriend isn’t as into to it as I am. I am lucky in that she humors me about it. But her equivalent is current celebrity news. I don’t get it, but it’s only fair that I support her with her guilty pleasure when she supports me with mine. Any other guys out there have this same problem?
