Steelers vs. Colts Halftime Wrapup

The Steelers are down 13-10 in what has been a disappointing 2nd quarter for the Steelers.  Big Ben threw for 171 yards and a TD in the first quarter.  Then he stumbled through the second with two fumbles and an INT.  Without a doubt, the Colts run defense is what is winning the football game for the Colts.  Mendenhall is completely ineffective.  The line is not creating many holes, and when they do, Mendy is too busy trying to dance his way through that he only gets two or three yards.  This is causing the offense to pass more, which is spelling disaster for the offensive line and Big Ben.  Freeney and Mathis are wreaking havoc on the edges, and the Steelers’ tackles like Scott aren’t standing a chance right now.

I don’t know what Tomlin can say in the locker room that will get the line to do any better.  He is dealing with a level of mediocrity that no pep talk will reverse.  I think Tomlin should switch to Redman and get someone in there who can at least attempt to bowl their way through the pile.  That will at least keep Indy honest and free up the receivers for the quick routes that Ben desperately needs to throw in order to save his own life.

On a different note: James Farrior went out late in the first and has stayed out while Foote plays on defense.  Why does this happen every game? What is Tomlin playing at?

One other thing to note: Harrison and Polamalu are making their presence felt and it is making a difference in the game.  The defense is doing it’s job by keeping the Colts to only 6 points.  The offense is handing (almost literally) the game to Indy.

Let’s look for an improved half for the offense and continued solid play from the defense.  Maybe the Steelers will even get their first takeaway.
