Before I begin this article, I’d just like to congratulate Antonio Brown on the stellar 2011 season he has had so far.  Not only was Antonio named to his first career Pro Bowl on Wednesday as a Kick Returner, he was named the Steelers’ 2011 Team M.V.P.  But Antonio’s biggest accomplishment of 2011 statistics-wise happened last weekend against the Rams.  For those of you that are currently unaware, Antonio set a new Steeler franchise record for Total Yards in a season, a record previously held by former RB Barry Foster. There’s no doubt from anyone that Hines Ward is being slowly phased out of the Steelers offense.  No longer a starter and on pace for his lowest amount of receptions since his rookie season, there are questions swirling around Ward staying in Pittsburgh to finish out the two years left in his contract.  Regardless of his long term future in Pittsburgh, his immediate one looks to reach a very significant milestone.

Check out this article from deadspin.com.  This is like one of those hole in 1 kind of contests – $10,000 to the person who gets a hole in 1 – at a golf outing where the average golfer shoots a 90 or higher.  Pretty much guaranteed that it will never happen.  It’s an outright nod and acknowledgement of this guys hometown team spinning rapidly down the toilet.  Geesh.  Wonder what he thinks about the Indians and Cavs….

The Steelers need to win this Sunday against the Browns for the other parts of Playoff Scenario Hell to even begin.  For any Steelers fan, the past three weeks have been filled with stress as we pray for a Ravens loss and a Steelers win.  If the Steelers can’t win the division, they will be playing a road game against a team with a worse record.  According to former Ravens coach, Brian Billick, it doesn’t have to be that way.

*Sigh* I miss seeing Brady Quinn on the sidelines twice a year. He’s just so easy to make fun of. We’re nearing the playoffs and the air is ripe with QB drama. Drew Brees has just broken the single season yardage record, but it’s been overshadowed by Aaron Rodgers’ ridiculous 45 TDs to 6 interceptions year.   Earlier this week I used a dating scenario to set up a premise to convey a concept.  It was the only thing my Jager addled brain could come up with.  Here is the second installment of the two part thingy.  I hope you got some sleep because six more Steelers are looking to hook-up. 

We’ve finally come to the final week in the NFL.  An NFL season that, at one time, was in question due to the lockout, has provided Steeler Nation with ups, downs, and all the ranges of emotion.  Now it’s time to handle business.  The Steelers travel to the Mistake on the Lake to take on the Brownies with the hopes of ending the season with a win and if all the stars align, a first round bye in the playoffs.  To think  some fans have to worry each season whether or not their team will make the playoffs or finish [...]

No doubt Harrison’s crosshairs will be aimed at Colt McCoy this Sunday against the Browns.  But will anyone on offense be setting their crosshairs in Harrison’s direction?  According to ProFootballTalk and Fox Sports Ohio the answer is no.  ’What do you want them to do, start a fight?’ says head coach Pat Shurmur.  Fight? No.  Cheap shot? Maybe.

The last time I checked, the most important ‘stat’ in football is winning.  Granted, the Pro Bowl is meant for the overachievement of individuals in the NFL – and sometimes that means guys (like Darrelle Revis) from an 8-7 team get selected.  But, what is as annoying and inconsistent as the BCS, is the Pro Bowl overlooks players who contribute in huge ways that leads directly to their team winning.  The voting block looks at the big stats and overlooks the intangibles of what makes that player great for a particular season.  Thus why four Steelers got snubbed.

Once again the votes of all the arm chair quarterbacks and faithful followers have been tallied and the 2012 team was announced yesterday. Were there any shocking snubs this year? Any surprises to make the team? Anyone actually still care about this roster anymore or is it just a way to pass the time before the week long media frenzy of Super Bowl Sunday starts…..
