Steelers Evening Vibe: Release of Vets Official

facebooktwitterreddit

Here’s some of the news from the day today….

The Steelers officially released the four veterans they said they would announced over the course of the last week.  Ward, Farrior, Smith and Kemoeatu got the boot today.  All of these guys are available to negotiate and sign with teams effective immediately.  Where will each end up? Or will any retire?  We could see up to three out of the four – Ward, Farrior and Smith – retire.

This story is from yesterday, but it is an official statement from Colbert about the bounty program recently ‘uncovered’ by the NFL.  Colbert acknowledges that they try and keep things like that from happening in the locker room.

"“You always think that you are ahead of it, but you don’t know for sure.  You always want to make sure that your house is in order, and we are comfortable that our house has been in order.”"

I’m sure the NFL will be prying into every house like a bunk check at camp in the upcoming weeks and months.  We’ve heard before of owners and coaches saying teams don’t participate in things like that – the Saints said the same thing – so hopefully Colbert is right and truly knows what’s going on in that locker room.

It’s official.  Just like Hines Ward with the Steelers, after 14 seasons with the Colts, Peyton Manning and the team are parting ways.  You should click on the link and watch the farewells from Manning and Colts owner Irsay.  Something along the lines that Ward should have had….. but may never get.  So where will Peyton go now?  There are sure to be teams interested in Manning who are desperate to have an arm with a heartbeat on their squad.  My sense is Miami.
