NFL.com reported this afternoon that the Steelers have signed 4 year deals with both Alameda Ta’amu and Chris Rainey. Ta’amu was drafted in the 4th round of the draft and Rainey was selected in the 5th.
Ta’amu is a beastly nose tackle who is the successor to Casey Hampton – either this year or in the near future depending on how Hampton recovers from his injury in the offseason. Rainey is an electric and speedy running back. Where he will fit in Haley’s new offensive scheme is yet to be seen, but the Steelers (by drafting him and signing him this quickly) are committed to utilizing Rainey’s potential and explosiveness.
Financial details have yet to be released. Look for the Steelers to continue signing the rookies as the mini-camps continue over the next several weeks.
