Kordell Stewart's 4th Quarter TOUCHDOWN Reception @ Cincinnati WAS the ONE play that I REMEMBER & cherish the Memory of the MOST! I was watching from A Corporate Box @ then Riverfront Stadium...
The game was broadcast on NBC, as they were the AFC Network @ the time! I clearly remember "The Call" by Paul Maguire. On the previous play he noted, " O'Donnell HAS 'SLASH' wide open down the middle if he just sees him"... Then @ the snap of the ball he said, " There it is... Throw it... " O'Donnell "saw" Slash this time! And Maguire went through the roof! "He's got it! Oh he's carrying The Ball like a 'loaf of bread'..." As he crossed the Goal Line Maguire was LAUGHING, & said, "oh that's just GREAT stuff! The "kid" didn't know what to do with the ball, but... Oh That's just Great For Kordell Stewart!" The others in the Box were ALL standing & screaming, while I sat & almost CRIED with Joy as I watched the Half Dozen replays! It REALLY was a Thing of Beauty!
To this day, I STILL think if Kordell Stewart had ditched his Great Desire to be a Quarterback In The NFL, & concentrated on being a Wide Receiver, we would NOT be talking about his "Surprise OFFICIAL Retirement" as a Pittsburgh Steeler! Oh no! But MORE likely about his "BUST" as he was being Enshrined in Canton! His NATURAL ability @ The Wide Receiver position combined with his Knowledge as a Quarterback COULD/WOULD have made him A Hall of Famer!
