June 15th has come and gone on the east coast. And unless the PPG or TribLive or Steelers.com is saving the big news until Saturday morning post-sunrise, then it’s safe to say that the Steelers and Mike Wallace have not come to terms yet on a contract. It also means that Mike Wallace has continued his refusal of signing the one year restricted tender the Steelers placed on him all the way back in March.
The Steelers have said, through multiple sources and reports, that they will not reduce Wallace’s tender from over $2 million to roughly $575,000. My guess is that they weren’t blowing smoke and that the $2.7 million will reamin on the table for the duration of the summer.
The big question now is – Will Mike Wallace sign his tender before camp or will the Steelers sign a long term deal? Or, worse case scenario, will Wallace hold out most of the season?
I guess we can put the Wallace drama (or lack thereof) to bed for a while. I really don’t think we’ll hear anything until late July on Wallace agreeing to terms with the Steelers…. if ever at all this season.
