Farewell Me’ Mo’. Steelers RB Heads To Indy

facebooktwitterreddit

The once speedy and reliant third down running back and free agent, Mewelde Moore, is headed to Indy after being signed to a deal with the Colts.  The terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed.

Even though Mendenhall will more than likely start on the PUP list (and potentially lost his starting job entirely to Isaac Redman), the Steelers felt no need to bring back Moore for another season.  With the return of Baron Batch, who turned many heads during the early stages of last year’s training camp before sustaining a season ending knee injury, and with rookie Chris Rainey drafted in the 5th round, the Steelers probably feel confident in having their third down back in one of those two guys.  Rainey, especially, could be a huge factor on third down conversions.  And not just third down conversions – Rainey could make third down a very profitable down for the Steelers instead of just moving the chains.

This makes the list of potential backs on the roster as follows:

Isaac Redman

Baron Batch

Chris Rainey

John Clay

Jonathan Dwyer

Rashard Mendenhall (probably PUP)

Like with many positions on the offense, it will be an interesting summer to see who makes the final roster and who starts against the Broncos in Week 1.
