Former Pittsburgh Steelers William Willie Will Gay was released by Pittsburgh West (aka Arizona Cardinals) on Friday.  Gay originally signed a $3.2 million two year deal with Arizona last season after he turned down a one year deal from the Steelers.

Gay probably found the end of the road in ‘Zona due to former defensive coordinator Roy Horton leaving the Cardinals for the Cleveland Browns.  He was also due $3.2 million in 2013, which I guess the Cardinals didn’t want the cap hit.  Rumor has it that Gay was drawn to the Cards due to Horton’s presence, so I’m going to take a wild swing and expect Gay to end up in Cleveland sometime this offseason.

Don’t expect Gay to return to the Steelers anytime soon.  If his preference is personnel over money, then he’ll land in Cleveland.  It’s not like the Steelers have the cash to offer him anything other than the league minimum anyways.  And, why would they aggressively pursue Gay when they have Taylor, Lewis, Allen, and Brown as their top four corners with two other projects waiting in the wings (assuming Lewis is signed)?

Happy trails to Gay.  Another Steeler heads to Arizona and becomes another failed footnote in the Pittsburgh West Experiment.  When oh when will the Cardinals learn that there’s only one Pittsburgh Steelers football team?
