So what was thought to be as unpredictable of a first round as ever turned out to be just that last night. The evening was full of intrigue, trades, as well as a few head-scratching selections. With round two a few hours away, here are some thoughts.

Not quite sure that the Dolphins were thinking, trading up in a fury to grab OLB Dion Jordan. Yes, I thought he’s go 4th to the Eagles, but the ‘Fins had a chance to grab T Jake Long’s replacement in Lane Johnson and didn’t. First head scratching pick of the night.

The Jets simply have no clue. None, zip, zilch zero. With nothing on offense, they take two defensive players, including DT Sheldon Richardson who really doesn’t fit their scheme. How do either of these guys help the offense? These picks stink of Rex Ryan who this time next year will be someone’s defensive co-ordinator.

Not sure who is more painful to listen to, Jon Gruden or Mike Mayock. Well, I’ll answer my own question…I could only tolerate NFL network’s coverage for thirty seconds. I tolerated Gruden for 3+ hours. Hey Mike- we don’t need a lengthy dissertation on every single pick.Keep it short and sweet, if you can.

Speaking of Gruden…what was he on last night? What is his infatuation with LSU’s Tyrann Mathieu? This kid has more red flags than a downhill slalom, yet Gruden has him as the second coming of Darell Revis.

The Bengals are shaping up to have a scary offense. If they can add a speed back, they will be very scary.

The Browns OLB rotation may not only rival Pittsburgh’s they could surpass if Jason Worilds doesn’t work out.

Really Chicago…Kyle Long? You have nothing at the TE position and the best one in the draft if there for the taking and you take a guard? Yes I know it’s a need position as well, but boy did you blow that. Head scratching move two.

ESPN showed very little class in the amount of camera time focused on the face of QB Geno Smith as he slipped down and out of the first round. C’mon, the kid was humiliated enough, why heighten it?

Yes I know the Green Bay defense was bad, but they have no running game. Datone Jones over Eddie Lacy? head scratching move three.

A center Dallas? You made your fans wait for a center?

I bet Manti Te’o is glad he skipped the invite to New York. I bet Geno Smith wishes Te’o hadn’t, at least he would have had some company.

Did I understand right…is this the end for Mel Kiper?

Mike Mayock never stops talking, never. I bet he talks in his sleep….then analyzes his dreams to death…”was in a cover two or press dream?” “did I sleep on my back shoulder”?

Things lined up nicely for the Steelers. I just pray Jones’ health issues don’t come back to haunt them.

Such an odd first round…is it me or are there a lot of potential busts with this group?

Can’t wait for rounds 2-7
