Not any changes at the middle linebacker position for next season. Larry Foote is like the Charlie Batch of linebackers: old reliable. Larry Foote knows the defense and is able to run it successfully. He has seen it all throughout his time in the NFL, making him very good at anticipating routes and being able to diagnose running plays.
Sean Spence will not be taking over anytime soon, as he suffered extreme nerve damage in his knee last preseason. Keith Butler says it will be a miracle if he comes back ever. I feel truly sorry for Sean Spence who appears to have his career cut short.
Stevenson Sylvester and Marshall McFadden will be interesting to watch as they could compete to eventually take over for Foote opposite of Timmons.
Lawrence Timmons will continue to man the Mack linebacker spot, after a break-out season in 2012. Lawrence Timmons was an absoulute animal in the middle, blitzing the quarterback and making several tackles. Timmons will continue to improve and some even saw him as an all-pro last season.
The eventual replacement for the Buck linebacker position isn’t clear, but for now, Larry Foote will remain the starter.
