Happy July 4th, Steeler Nation! I hope everyone gets at least a little time to celebrate Independence Day. Here are a few stories you may find interesting for today’s Huddle.
The Steelers Turnover Problem
Jaimeson Hensley, who blogs about the AFC North for ESPN.com, talks about the Steelers multitude of turnovers in 2012, which makes me shudder just to read it. It’s like reliving the worst parts of the season last year because ball control just seems like something easy to fix compared to other problems. If you don’t think it was that bad and I’m overreacting check out this stat:
According to ESPN Stats & Information, opponents scored 110 points off Steelers turnovers last season. That’s more than one-third of the points allowed by the Steelers’ defense.”
How do you feel about the Steeler’s turnovers now? If I have one wish that I hope the Steelers fulfill, it is: ”Don’t beat yourselves.” It starts with holding on to the ball. The ball will get knocked lose occasionally, but let’s not hold it out and say “here, your turn.”
Ben Says His Knee Feels Great
Well, that’s good news for Steeler fans, right? According to Josh Alper, from ProFootball Talk, Ben is quoted as saying his knee feels “brand new.” Ben is used to playing dinged up or downright hurt, so I’m sure any relief feels great. I am hoping that Ben makes it through 16 games (and beyond) this year, but I’m not expecting it. The back-up quarterback situation is an unknown this year. While I agree that changes needed to be made, I’m going to miss seeing Charlie Batch in a Steeler uni on game day.
Maurkice Pouncey’s Name Surfaces in Aaron Hernandez Investigation
The Pouncey twins names have surfaced in a report dug up by ESPN’s Outside the Lines. The article focuses mostly on Hernandez’ issues while playing at Florida. Both played at Florida University while Hernandez was there. While it isn’t a complete shock that the Pouncey names came up, I hope it is just a passing reference of being somewhere together and that is it. I really hope that it doesn’t come out that the Pouncey’s were somehow more than teammates with Hernandez. I am concerned about the possibility of this being hyped and being a distraction for the Steelers when training camp starts.
Six Championships (and counting)
If the 49ers had won the Super Bowl, they would have tied the Steelers for 6 championships. Well, here’s a tweet that made me giggle:
