I will admit that my heart sank a little bit when Jarvis Jones left Pittsburgh’s third preseason game with a chest injury in the middle of the fourth quarter on Saturday night.  I was even more worried when I read that Jones was sent to the hospital to have his chest injury evaluated after he left the stadium.

Thankfully, the news has only been more positive on the status of Jones’ chest during the last couple of days.  The x-rays came back negative on Jones’ chest for any broken bones, and he was released from the hospital with a bruise yesterday.

Teresa Varley of Steelers.com shared some excerpts of what Jones had to say regarding his injury earlier today, and the rookie linebacker sounded extremely positive.  When asked about how the injury happened and how he felt at the moment, Jones said the following:

"I’m fine.  It’s just one of those moments.  I don’t know if it was bad technique or anything, but I got tackled from behind, fell on the ball, the dude fell on top of me and knocked the air out of me.  Our staff did the precautionary thing by having me go and get it checked out."

I am sure that I can speak for all of “Steeler Nation” when I say that we can all breathe a big sigh of relief about Jones and his health right now.  Like Markus Wheaton and Shamarko Thomas, Jones has been one of Pittsburgh’s most pleasant rookie surprises during preseason play.

Although the linebacker seems hungry to get back on the field on Thursday night against the Panthers, his status is still “unknown” according to Varley.  I for one hope that Pittsburgh’s medical staff err on the side of caution when it comes to Jones and sit him for precautionary purposes.

For now though, I am just happy that Jones appears to be in good spirits and is ready for his next chance to help his team on the field.
