"We’ll see how it is on Wednesday when we put on the pads, … It’s tolerable. It’s one of those things you just deal with. It will be the coach’s final decision on everything. It’s day-to-day and we can see how it is on Sunday.-Ramon Foster (via Teresa Varley of Steelers.com)"

Although the Steelers have played “musical chairs” with their offensive linemen so many times during the last few seasons, the absence of Ramon Foster this weekend could set off a domino effect along the offensive line which could result in Guy Whimper starting at left guard this Sunday against the New York Jets.

Despite the fact that the Steelers traded for Levi Brown last week, the veteran is still getting up to speed with Pittsburgh’s playbook. If Brown is unable to start at left tackle this weekend, then the Steelers will have to use Kelvin Beachum on the blind-side instead.

If the team’s “Swiss Army Knife” is pressed into duty at left tackle and Foster is forced to rest this Sunday, then it will be Whimper who will start at left guard according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Whimper, who has not started a game at guard during his professional career, is definitely a question mark when it comes to his ability as a pass-blocker. During the 2011 season alone, Whimper surrendered 14 sacks as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars!

Regardless of who receives the start at left guard (Beachum, Foster, or Whimper) though, the Jets will surely attack that particular weakness with their athletic interior pass-rushers in the forms of Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson. I just hope that Whimper can adjust on the fly at his new position if his number is indeed called.
