Steelers Morning Huddle 10/12/2013

The Steelers will pack it up and head east towards Met Life Stadium this afternoon to take on the Jets tomorrow. Will they come back with the “W” or will they sink further down the winless rabbit whole like the Giants? Here’s what’s being said about your Pittsburgh Steelers around the block.

Healthy Steelers

Holy crap the Steelers are actually healthy right now! As ESPN’s Scott Brown reports, only rookie WR Markus Wheaton has been ruled out of Sunday’s game since he still has stitched in his surgically repaired pinky finger. Ramon Foster, Ben Roethlisberger, Heath Miller, and Le’Veon Bell all completed a full week of practice and are expected to play tomorrow. As well as, brace yourselves, Derek Moye, who is projected to replace Markus Wheaton’s spot as the 4th wide receiver. Moye has been inactive for the past two games but will step in tomorrow to be Ben’s go-to tall guy. The undrafted free agent from Penn State is hoping to add to his career catch total which right now is just at one, one touchdown catch against Cincinnati earlier this season.

“I go in day in and day out in practice and prove that I belong here. Obviously the game’s a whole different scenario, so I’m just looking forward to the opportunity to carry over what I’ve been doing in practice.” – Derek Moye

Steelers Style

The Steelers might not have any more games in their locker room but that doesn’t stop them for having a little fun for a charitable cause. Last night the team held their annual Steelers Style Fashion Show to benefit UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program and the Cancer Caring Center. The highlights of the fashion show include the “Jr Swag” award given to the players’ most fashionable child. This year Jerricho Cotchery’s kids won the award although I was impressed to see Troy Polamalu’s boys decked out in 80s style break-dancing gear. You can watch the highlights of the fashion show here.

Tragedy hits Adrian Peterson

Some very sad news made its way across the NFL yesterday afternoon. Reports surfaced in the morning that the 2-year old son of Vikings RB Adrian Peterson was in critical condition in the hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. after being beaten by a man who was dating the boy’s mother. The man was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery of an infant and is being held on bond. Sadly, the story got worse as the news broke that the boy did not survive from his injuries and passed away Friday afternoon. The Sioux Falls police department is now considering adding additional charges to the man. Peterson had missed practice Thursday but had returned to Minnesota on Friday and had indicated he planned to play on Sunday, but that was before the news of his son’s passing became public. Peterson sent out a series of tweets Friday afternoon. I can’t wrap my head around the idea of beating a child to death. There’s a special place in hell for a person who harms a child, but hopefully for this particular person, hell will come a lot sooner in prison.
