According to the team’s official website, the Pittsburgh Steelers inked punter Brad Wing and long snapper Bryce Davis to Reserve/Futures contracts earlier today.

Wing, who is from Australia like Mat McBriar, should give his fellow Aussie some competition between now and the start of the regular season at the punter position. A 2011 Ray Guy Award finalist and 2011 AP All-American, Wing left L.S.U. after his redshirt sophomore season last year and was not selected in the 2013 NFL Draft. Although the Philadelphia Eagles inked him to a UDFA deal last April, he was released by the team before the start of the regular season.

Wing possesses a big leg and did a fantastic job of pinning opponents inside their own 20-yard line in college (2011-2012: 48 times). Of course, his off-field issues and on-field celebrations overshadowed what was a solid career for the Bayou Bengals.

Bryce Davis, like Luke Ingram did last season, should challenge pending UFA Greg Warren for his long snapper duties. Davis actually spent parts of the 2012 season on the practice squad of the Cincinnati Bengals, but he was ultimately released by the team before the start of the 2013 regular season.
