Steelers Reportedly Interview Shaun Sarrett For O-Line Coach

Familiarity and continuity are key when it comes to building a competent offensive line. Although the Pittsburgh Steelers fired Jack Bicknell, Jr. earlier this month, the team reportedly interviewed offensive assistant Shaun Sarrett for the vacant position of offensive line coach according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

I would certainly be a fan of Sarrett’s possible promotion and allowing him to work more extensively with the Steelers’ young yet talented offensive line. An offensive lineman during his collegiate career at Kent State, Sarrett was an instrumental part in the improvement of Pittsburgh’s makeshift and hobbled offensive line down the stretch last fall.

Already a reliable jack-of-all trades for the team’s offense in a coaching capacity, Sarrett would be a solid hire for the Steelers. Plus, it does not hurt in any respect that he is probably quite familiar with the personnel in the trenches.

Granted, I am sure that the Steelers would like to talk to interview more coaches to fill the vacancy at some point over the coming weeks. Yet as far as in-house candidates are concerned, Sarrett would be the top person to assume Bicknell, Jr.’s old job.
