Who is ready for the 2014 NFL Draft?

With the upcoming event in mind, I will publish a Pittsburgh Steelers-themed 2014 NFL Mock Draft on a weekly basis for those of you draft-hungry members of Steeler Nation.

So until the compensatory selections are handed out by the NFL, I will try project all six of Pittsburgh’s 2014 draft choices in the upcoming mocks. In addition, I will also provide some analysis and information on each prospect and share why I believe they will be solid fits with the Steelers:

Love the Dennard pick. What about that receiver out of SVSU. I thought the Steelers were taking a hard look at that guy.

      what makes you say that?

Joshua, who’s this guy and what school is SVSU? Steel Valley State University? LOL!!

      • Joshua Giovannone

Jeff Janis. It is Saginaw Valley State University

Also Dennard’s tackling ability is not talked about too much. He had one tackle this season that really stood out. It was against OSU and literally went though an offensive lineman to get Hyde I believe

Dom, now you’re talking man! We finally got you to go D first eh? I like this thru the first 2 rounds, I think Davante Adams is really flying under the radar and he’s got nice size at 6’2″. From Round 3 on I am a bit skeptical – I would have liked to see us taking that NT I keep on harping on about in Round 3 and Ryan Carrethers seems like a Casey Hampton clone, so I would have gone that way. Round 4 back to the secondary in my estimation. Which would you prefer, taking Dennard/Gilbert at CB or Ha Ha at S, given the choice?

    • Dom DiTolla

Just wanted to mix it up with the hope that Dennard might fall. Like Jones, he might actually play because of a lack of personnel at CB. Any other defender will likely rot.

I’d take Dennard since he is the best scheme fit, but if they see Golden as more of a sub-package and versatile (CB/S) player, then Clinton-Dix. Of course, I want them drafting Ebron or Amaro at 15, because I am sick of watching Spaeth, Paulson and Palmer at TE, and sick of there not being an exit strategy behind Heath at the position too.

No OL help? I dunno, I think that CB and WR are the two deepest positions in the draft.. I don’t think there is one that stands out, but, I think the best two are both from Clemson (wr & cb)..
Knowing the Steelers, I still see them drafting NIX (bad wheel and all) unless Lewan is there..
Then going OL in rd 2 and trying to find a CB/WR/TE later or with supplemental picks (which we know the steelers will get screwed on by the league) I like that Crockett Gilmore kid at TE or even Jack Niclaus’s grandson O’Leary.. probably avail in rd 5…. I really like Fiedorowicz? TE from Iowa, but, no way he makes it out of the third rd.

    • Dom DiTolla

O’Leary is coming back for another year at the college level. As far as OL is concerned, why waste a pick on a player like Lewan who has issues with speed rushers and character issues in round one?

Davante is a guy I could see the Steelers targeting, but I really hope they can snag Jordan Matthews in the second round.
