Pittsburgh Steelers Adopt Variable Ticket Pricing For 2014 Season

The Pittsburgh Steelers have changed their ticket pricing model for the first time in their existence. They will charge different prices for different games starting with the 2014 season. The Steelers have adopted the variable ticket pricing model that has been adapted by some other NFL teams as well as the other major sports.

What this means to the average Steelers fan who purchases a ticket or two over the course of a season is that the prices will vary depending upon the game. The price of preseason games will be decreased by 20% or more while the prices of higher interest games will increase.

Steelers season ticket holders have already been announced of the change and should expect to see a 3.5% overall increase in their cost for the 2014 season. Individual game tickets will go on sale following the release of the NFL Schedule.

The benefits to the variable pricing model will be for season ticket holders who want to re-sell their tickets, the different levels in the pricing model will allow them to charge more for different games. There will be a Preseason, Black and Gold level to the pricing of the games. Those will all be determined once the schedule comes out but you can bet that the Steelers vs. Ravens game is going to be a Gold level game where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Steelers might be a Black level game.

This also benefits fans that want to afford a home game and don’t mind who the opponent is. With a cheaper price on a lower-marquis named game, a Steelers home game might be more affordable than it was a year ago.

What are your thoughts, Steeler Nation? Do you like seeing the variable pricing model come to the Steelers?

Hmmm. I’m thinking the Black level will be part of the 3.5% increase. So it’s not like the Black level game will be cheaper than usual. It just means that the Gold level is going to be extremely high. I hope that somehow it is very easy to find out what price level a game is at so that a single game buyer doesn’t get gouged by the season ticket holder or scalper who claims the higher price because it’s a Gold game when really it’s a Black one.

Why is the name Cowher still around? It just reminds fans of about 18 dreadful years with only one super bowl win. Is that the best name you can come up with?

    • Craig

Well Gene, this site was created during the Cowher years before it became part of the FanSided network. There is a following with this site, so to change the name would not be beneficial.

Is that the best you can up with for a comment? Do you have thoughts on ticket prices, or do you just like to grumble about things that are irrelevant to the conversation?

      • Gene Scala

Yea, I see they’re just lining up to comment on your site. If you don’t get the drift of the comment, just ignore it. But lots of fans I know have the same opinion.

I get the drift, thanks. Again thanks for continuing the irrelevant comments to this post. Our analytics say otherwise about your comment to visit ratio. But nice try.

If you have a problem with the name of this site (how ridiculous of you) and think you are so clever to point it out, then don’t stop and read. Simple as that.
