Steelers Morning Huddle 4/10/14

There are 29 days until the NFL Draft.  Rejoice.  A day closer to the NFL Draft is a day closer to the season.  Every day we get closer to the season, the more information there is to report.  Here are a couple articles to get you through Thursday.

Preseason Schedule Released

Today the NFL released the schedule for the four least important games of the season.  Case and point, the Redskins are always good and the Steelers are always bad.  The Steelers are at the Giants week 1, at home vs. the Bills week 2, at the Eagles week 3, and at home vs. the Panthers week 4.  Another ho-hum schedule for a meaningless preseason.  How long till the regular season schedules come out?  Counting down the days.

Odell Beckham Has Dinner with Steelers

RT @SiriusXMNFL: #LSU WR Odell Beckham tells us he met w the #49ers, dinner with #Steelers & going to visit #Bills Thursday

Odell Beckham is one of the most coveted wide receivers in the NFL Draft and will make whichever team drafts him very happy.  Vic Tafur retweeted this tweet from Sirius XM NFL that reported Beckham meeting with a few teams this week.  In all likelihood Beckham won’t be available for the 49ers unless the trade up, but they could be an underrated pick for the Bills.  If all goes perfectly, Beckham will be available when the Steelers pick.  Unlike most other analysts, Beckham is my 2nd ranked wide receiver and 10th overall player on my board.  So if I was in the Steelers war room on draft day, if Beckham fell to pick 15 it would be a no brainer.

I like Beckam, but, not at 15… not with the need of a top CB. If SF wants him so badly, trade down with them and stockpile extra 2nd and 3rd rd picks. Take those picks and move up in rd 2. So take someone like Roby or Verett with SF’s first rd pick, then go after the best wr left in rd 2 (after moving back up) someone like Matthews, Benjamin or Bryant… With their own 2nd rd pick go after a TE like Niklaus, a pass rusher like VanNoy or Crichton, or even a safety like Buchannon. In Rd 3 look for depth at postitions where you missed in rd 1-2…Get another weapon like D. Thomas in rd 4 or a possesion type receiver like Norwood there…depending on what type of receiver you got in rd 2.

You are kidding about a safety, right?
