Fortunately for Steelers fans, we haven’t had to deal with a ton of draft busts in recent memory.  I don’t want to mention any names, but the team with orange helmets in the AFC North are pretty much the opposite of the Steelers.  Brandon Weeden, Courtney Brown, Tim Couch… I could go on and on but let’s take it easy on those guys, at least they have a movie about their GM Kevin Costner coming out.

Anyways, Steelers Nation should be thankful for the draft success the team has had.  With that being said the Steelers aren’t totally immune to drafting guys who don’t pan out like everyone thought.  Here is my list of the Top Five draft busts the Steelers have made since 2000.

The Mendenhall pick is a prickly one, isn’t it. I know that injuries are as much a part of the game as blocking and tackling (thanks, Coach!) but having Mendenhall get injured by Ray ‘stabby’ Lewis was the worst. Ray Ray was a little long in the tooth at that time but that hit helped build his legend. Having your young buck injured by a guy on the downside of his career is not acceptable (obviously…)
