NFL Draft 2014: Recapping the Surprises of the First Round

Shortly after the second pick of the 2014 NFL draft I tweeted about the first two picks being predictable and wanting somebody to surprise me. Yes, this is a little early in a draft to be talking about being unsurprised, but I like to push the limits of the system.  It didn’t take long afterward for somebody to shock me.  There were a lot of unexpected picks throughout this first round, some relevant to the Pittsburgh Steelers, others not.  Here is a look at the six biggest surprises in the 2014 NFL draft from my point of view in chronological order.

    You state that Shazier lacks the football intelligence and instincts of a guy like Mosley. You realize Shazier’s the son of a coach, studies film intensely, started more games than Mosley and has better stats over the last two years correct? Just wondering what you’re basing your analysis on.

      There was nothing about him being the son of a football coach or the amount of film study he does in any draft profile I saw of him. If that’s true, then that’s great. I am feeling better and better about this pick as they days go by.
