The 2014 Pittsburgh Steelers will get a chance to come together for the first time at the end of this month for OTA Offseason Workouts. The Phase One of the offseason workout programs consisted of strength and conditioning and physical rehabilitation but now that the draft picks are on board, the OTAs dates have been announced.

The Steelers rookie minicamp begins this weekend for the nine draft picks and nine rookie free agents, along with any try-outs. The next phase of the workout program is the first round of OTAs. Below are the dates for the workout programs for the rest of the summer for the Steelers until training camp.

Rookie Minicamp: May 16-18

Mandatory Minicamp: June 17-19

OTA Offseason Workouts: May 27-29, June 3-5, June 9-12

After June 19th the team will break for the summer before reporting to Saint Vincent College in Latrobe for Training Camp. Those official dates have yet to be announced but it will typically be the end of July.

During the OTAs no live contact is allowed but drills are permitted, per the league’s CBA. This is what Coach Tomlin affectionately refers to as “football in shorts”. This is the period of time where the new players get acclimated with the playbook and the veterans get acclimated with the new players. With all the free agents signed this year along with this rookie class, they’re going to need some kind of orientation day just to introduce everyone first. Some kind of mixer with snack provided would be nice.
