Steelers Morning Huddle 6/19/2014

Steelers season goes all year long so whether we’re breaking down draft choices, recapping OTA’s, or looking around for mentions of your Black & Gold we’ve got you covered. Here’s what’s being said about your Pittsburgh Steelers around the block.

Terry Bradshaw being an a-hole again

Former Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw has had an up and down relationship with the city of Pittsburgh since he won four Super Bowls with the Steelers in the 70s. It’s also reported that his relationship, even as of late, with the late Chuck Noll was not great. But, as the news broke late last week that Chuck Noll had passed, tons of Bradshaw’s former teammates came to the area to pay their respects. According to 93.7 The Fan, Bradshaw was in the area as well, but to perform his one man show, “America’s Favorite Dumb Blonde” in Washington, PA at the Meadows Racetrack and Casino. Not only did Bradshaw not attend the viewing or funeral where Joe Greene and Steelers President Art Rooney II served as pallbearers for Noll, but it’s reported that he also hasn’t contacted Marianne Noll, Chuck’s widow, to pay his respects to her.

Steelers to wear patch honoring Chuck Noll

The Steelers were already set to honor and celebrate the 40th anniversary of their first Super Bowl win from 1974 this season. Unfortunately, they’ll also have to pay tribute to one of the men most responsible for that Super Bowl victory, Chuck Noll. According to ESPN’s Scott Brown the Steelers will wear a patch for the entire 2014 season in memory of the iconic coach, who passed away on Friday night at the age of 82. There will also be a separate celebration still, during their Nov. 30th home game versus the New Orleans Saints to commemorate the Super Bowl IX victory.

Ben Roethlisberger ranked #31 in NFL’s Top 100

Gramma called it, Terry Bradshaw is an AHole!

So let me get this straight and Im just being honest about what I hear around the threads about our 4 ring QB.

He is overrated and an average QB who had great teams. Even though he is a two time MVP of those Superbowls and the only QB to have a 100 QBR in all four Superbowls he has appeared in.

Even though Terry is Bipolar, has suffered numerous concussions and only he knows how truly messed up he is ( The sack by Turkey Jones alone should have ended his career) we have determined he is an a hole to go along with being an average QB.

He doesnt even function normally and needs an assist from medication. A big part of his life is slowing going away ( Coach & Team mates) and im sure he looks at his own mortality now. Everyone grieves differently and the guy never embarrassed the organization with off the field issues non stop.

I’m not a soap box guy, but I just can’t believe the treatment our four time Super Bowl winning QB gets.

    • Kimmy

The story from 93.7 The Fan included a quote from long-time Steelers PR man, Joe Gordon who said, in regards to Terry, that he was the most insincere person he had ever met.

I don’t know how bad his daily motor functions are if he’s currently touring with his one-man show and never misses an appearance on Fox Sports. He refused reporters questions about Noll and only provided his only public response about Noll to his paying customers at his show.

The piece also goes onto mention how Jack Lambert, who is by far more private of a person and unwilling to deal with celebrity than Bradshaw ever was or ever will be, went out of his way to set up a time to visit with Noll’s widow to pay his respects before the viewing.

If you want to make excuses for him because he won 4 Super Bowls, fine. He’s a truly underrated quarterback who never gets the mentions he should for how great he was back then. Doesn’t mean he’s not an asshole, though.

      • Craig

Right on Kimmy. Someone may be the winningest blankety blank in blankety blank sport. But if that person still acts like a jag… well then they’re a jag with lots of trophies. Accomplishments in sports do not forgive actions in one’s personal life.

Bradshaw may grieve differently than most folks and if that’s why he hasn’t said anything publicly or to Noll’s widow, well then ok. But his history of being a douche canoe to Pittsburgh and the rest of the Steelers organization makes it hard to believe that this is just his ‘coping mechanism.’

        • Milliken Steeler

Doesn’t mean he is either Kimmy. Do you know him personally? Go to dinner with Terry or are we regurgitating news from someone else.

Making excuses? I gave you facts and you chose to continue the theme. That is your opinion and that’s fine however, its still here-say.

Everyone grieves differently. My mother died six years ago and my sister is the one who called me to tell me to get down there asap…I did and my mom passed 30 minutes later. That is the last time I have seen my Dad or talked to him.

If someone called me an A-hole for how I’m handling death in my family and without due diligence into my family…They now would have a serious problem with me.

          • Craig

You used his accomplishments in sports to absolve him from his a-hole’ery towards the ‘Burgh and the Steelers. Let me just rewind & repeat: Someone may be the winningest blankety blank in blankety blank sport. But if that person still acts like a jag… well then they’re a jag with lots of trophies. Accomplishments in sports do not forgive actions in one’s personal life.

You’re right, it’s all here-say. Just as much as defending or admonishing. Your facts have no direct correlation with Kimmy’s position. However, if we are dealing with fact – my position still stands is that TB was a jag for the last 30 years with this organization. That type of empirical data would point the needle more towards jerk than coping mechanism on the jerk-o-meter.

          • Milliken Steeler

Okay Craig. I don’t want to be “that guy” so Ill respect you guys opinion and just choose to disagree. I just think the guy really takes a beating for a lot of things though.

You and Kim have a great day.

          • Craig

He does get crap. Undeservedly so? I think sometimes. Just sucks he didn’t reach out to Noll before or Noll’s wife after his death.

You have a good one too.

  • Carl Eagan

I realize your all experts and have the right to judge somebody on a personal level because your so superior. However if you don’t get along with somebody in life for whatever reason and this was a long standing mutual dislike with zero contact for years it’s hypocritical to go to others funeral. Although I’m sure every one of you piling onto Bradshaw will go to the funerals for everyone you ever worked with even 25 years after you worked with them. No this case isn’t different although you’ll try to explain it as such. Since your all insiders and have eliminated any possibility at all that he may have called Mrs. Knoll to avoid publicity have fun criticizing somebody you have no clue what they may or may not have done.

    • Craig

Really Carl? I mean wouldn’t you call Bradshaw’s actions more of that ‘street corner mentality’?

    • Kimmy

For the love of god Carl please look up the difference between your and you’re.
