Steelers season goes all year long so whether we’re previewing training camp, predicting roster moves, or looking around for mentions of your Black & Gold we’ve got you covered. Here’s what’s being said about your Pittsburgh Steelers around the block.
Todd Haley offensive basics
A lot of the Steelers’ 2013 second half of the season success offensively came via running the no-huddle offense as a staple. What ESPN’s Scott Brown explains is that protecting the football can also greatly improve a team’s chances at winning games. The Steelers turned the ball over 11 times in their first 4 games of 2013 but turned it over just 7 times in the final 8 games of the season. Once the ball security was under control, it allowed Todd Haley to let Ben Roethlisberger run loose with the no-huddle and be more in charge of the offense then he had ever been before.
“We obviously had some adversity with injuries and things like that, but the turnovers stopped. That’s really when we started playing better football. The second half of the season, we did a lot of good things, as we worked our way through adversity when you couldn’t see much light at the end of the tunnel. I think a lot of good came out of that. I think a lot of the guys that were here and are still here feel that and know what we have to accomplish. We are all interested in building off of that finish.” – Todd Haley
Ben makes ‘em look good
Jim Racalto over at Behind The Steel Curtain has a pretty good piece for anyone who is worried about the Steelers offense after losing Emmanuel Sanders and Jerricho Cotchery. He goes through the list of receivers who have left the team since playing with Ben to find bigger contracts elsewhere only to find their numbers drastically decreased. Mike Wallace is only the latest one but he goes through everyone from Antwaan Randle-El to Santonio Holmes to show that when a receiver has left Ben for more money elsewhere, they see a decline in their statistics. Can’t be a coincidence.
