Players check in for Training Camp

There’s something just so enjoyable about watching these big, burley men carry around their pillows and blankets as they check into the dorms of Saint Vincent each year. I can’t get enough of it. The rookies were told to arrive the day before while the rest of the roster officially checked into the dorms on Friday afternoon. You can watch the player arrivals right here.

Mike Mitchell on PUP list

As ESPN’s Scott Brown reports from Latrobe, the Steelers most “significant” signing this offseason has suffered a setback at the start of training camp. Mike Mitchell will start on the PUP list, along with running back Alvester Alexander, who spent last season on the practice squad, both for groin injuries. Steelers coach Tomlin said that Mitchell will be addressed day to day and could come off as early as next week.

Insider’s peek at Steelers reporting day

Former Pittsburgh Tribune Review columnist Dejan Kovacevic has begun his own website where he aims to give Pittsburgh fans his unique and highly awarded take on all the major sports in Pittsburgh. He gives us an insider’s peek, as much as he’s allowed to do, at the first day off Steelers training camp which includes the player check-ins and the conditioning test. Kovacevic comments that there is an air of optimism, as it should be with the start of camp. Everything is new, there’s no reason to keep the stench of the previous two 8-8 seasons hanging around, and just like Ike Taylor says, it’s time to start fresh like a newborn baby with a pacifier and Mama’s milk.
