Pittsburgh Steelers Offense Looking Good Already

Training camp has just started for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the new and young wide receiving corps already has already created buzz.  Sure it’s only been one day and sure nobody is wearing pads but I for one am getting very excited about this Steelers offense.  I’m guessing fans of every single team in the NFL are getting excited about how their team looks but I’m dreaming about the playoffs right now after reading Scott Brown’s report after day one.  Other than Big Ben Roethisberger’s contract situation everything has been good news coming out of Latrobe.

Forget about the loaded backfield with Le’Veon Bell, LeGarrette Blount and Dri Archer, who has been impressing fans with his speed and verstitiaily already.  The wide receiving corps has received heavy criticism based on the lack of experience mostly.  One day in, things are looking up.  At the start of June I wrote a blog about Justin Brown moving up the WR depth chart.  The kid might be doing just that.  He made a very nice catch in the first practice and according to Mark Kaboly earned some praise from Big Ben.  If the Steelers can get anything from Justin Brown the offense will be much tougher to defend.  Justin Brown isn’t the only receiver making noise.  Markus Wheaton made a few nice catches as the number two receiver.  Lance Moore played the slot and even Darrius Heyward-Bey had a good day catching the ball.  Ben says he isn’t worried about waiting until the offseason for his new contract and that’s fine.  Maybe his season will only be better because of the incentive of earning an absurd amount of money after a great season.  Either way, Ben with all the weapons the Steelers have somehow put together is making me extremely impatient for opening day versus the Browns.

I’m not trying to crazy optimistic but it’s a strange feeling entering training camp having not made the playoffs the past two years.  For my entire life it’s pretty much been a given that the Steelers are going to be playing January football.  Sorry Browns fans but that’s just how it’s been in Pittsburgh since the early 90’s.  The fact that the Steelers finished the year 6-2 and all this positive talk out of training camp has got me very jacked up for the upcoming season.  The offense could be dangerous.  The defense is younger and faster.  Mike Tomlin is calling people Jon Snow because he’s a Game of Thrones fan.  I am pumped.  16-0 here we come. Or at least the playoffs.

What do you think Steelers Nation? Clearly I’m a little excited about the 2014 season, hopefully I’m not by myself on this one.
