Steelers Morning Huddle 8/9/2014

Ready to hit the other guys

Teresa Varley tells us the Steelers are plenty anxious to hit someone other than their teammates as they await their first preseason game tonight against the New York Giants. Camp has gotten a bit scrappy in the last few days and William Gay reminds us that the players are ready to go.

Paging Mr. Adams

It seems to be the consensus out of training camp that Steelers offensive lineman Mike Adams is getting beaten like he stole something every time they’re on an 11-on-11 drill, which is problematic to say the least. According to ESPN’s Scott Brown; the objective for Mike Adams in preseason should be to challenge either Marcus Gilbert or Kelvin Beachum for either tackle position for Mike Munchak to be pleased. Brown doesn’t believe that Adams is in jeopardy of not making the 53-man roster, however, it is troubling that he’s not showing market improvement at this point in his career.

Do it Tuitt

Just as we’re all getting used to the idea of the first defensive rookie starting for Dick LeBeau in 10 years, Mark Kaboly of the Trib thinks that the Steelers first-round pick Ryan Shazier might not be the only rookie to be hopefully taking a crack at Johnny Manziel on September 7^th. Kaboly thinks that Stephon Tuitt, based on his camp performance thus far, has a real opportunity to start on the defensive line. Of course, at this point Tuitt is getting a lot more reps on the first-team defense and will likely see a lot of action in tonight’s game due to the Steve McLendon concussion injury. The Steelers invested a lot in bringing in Cam Thomas on the line so if McLendon is healthy come Week 1 who knows what’s to happen.
