Steelers preparing for “dress rehearsal”

As far as the preseason goes, the third game is typically the most regular season-like game on the schedule. The first teams will play most, if not all, of the first half and they will play with more of a regular season game feel to it. As Bob Labriola explains, the Steelers defense has the unique task of preparing for the up-tempo Eagles offense. While the Steelers are preparing for their dress rehearsal game, Mike Tomlin has already ruled out a few who will definitely not be participating due to injury.

"“From an injury standpoint we have some people who are out definitely this week and we have some other guys we’ll hold out as we do this time of year. The guys who are definitely out: Eric Waters has a concussion, Shaquille Richardson has a lateral knee injury, and he won’t participate. Cody Wallace had a finger fracture that was fixed; he won’t participate. Greg Warren obviously won’t participate coming off his meniscus tear and surgery. Jordan Zumwalt with his groin injury will not participate.” – Mike Tomlin"

Free food to keep Ben’s jersey clean

Ben Roethlisberger has found that the way to his offensive linemen’s’ brains, is through their stomachs. As Ray Fittipaldo of the PPG describes, Roethlisberger has taken a different approach to ensuring his lineman know the no-huddle offense well enough to give him the protection he needs. He set up pop quizzes in training camp to administer to the linemen and the “losers” of the quiz must buy food for the entire offense. I think you’ve seen why Ben seemed to have picture perfect protection on Saturday night during his few series with the first team offense.

Right call to bring Keisel back

ESPN Steelers reporter Scott Brown says that the move by the Steelers to re-sign Brett Keisel is the right one. Even though they signed Cam Thomas in the offseason, even though they drafted Stephon Tuitt, even though they are making and obvious and hopefully successful effort to get and stay younger on defense, Brown says that bringing Brett Keisel back into the Steelers locker room and on the playing field will benefit both Keisel and the team. It still remains to be seen just how Keisel will fit into the lineup because I seriously doubt them brought him back just to give pep talks in the locker room.
