Ben Roethlisberger focus on Cleveland

The Steelers are going to sit Ben Roethlisberger for the preseason finale on Thursday night against the Carolina Panthers. Roethlisberger is already setting his sights on the Cleveland Browns, whom the Steelers will play in the regular-season opener on Sept. 7th. Mike Prisuta explains that since Roethlisberger doesn’t normally play the final preseason game, he’ll spend this week already preparing for the Mike Pettine coached Browns.

Bell and Blount could face suspension by Steelers

Scott Brown of ESPN points out that while LeBackfield probably won’t be punished by the league for their marijuana possession arrests last week until next season but that doesn’t mean they won’t face any punishment by the Steelers. Both Tomlin and Steelers president Art Rooney II indicated that punishment, including suspension, is on the table for both Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount. Both running backs played in last week’s preseason loss to the Eagles because Tomlin believed sitting them for a preseason game would be what he would consider punishment. Players who aren’t necessarily fighting for roster spots certainly don’t enjoy playing in preseason games so sitting them out last week or this week would be like suspending a kid from school after he was caught skipping class.
