Pittsburgh Steelers Roster Cuts: Disappointments

facebooktwitterreddit

When the Steelers made their cuts today to get down to 75 men of their roster, there were a few disappointments among the bunch.  Most of the trimming I could see coming.  Some of it I was very, very surprised by, though.  Here are three of the biggest disappointments.

Vic So’oto

I thought So’oto had been good enough this preseason to compete for a final roster spot.  Surely I didn’t think he wouldn’t even make it past the first round of cuts.  Admittedly he hadn’t looked great and he wasn’t a lock to make the final roster by any means.  But he had made some splash plays, albeit against third teamers.  Hopefully So’oto still has eligibility left for the practice squad, because he could be a prime candidate if he isn’t signed by another team first.

Eric Waters

Based on his skills right now, Waters should not be a surprise cut.  But it isn’t his skills now that make him an intriguing player.  It’s his future

upside that should have coaches interested.  Waters is an uber athletic tight end who just wasn’t used correctly during his time at the university of Missouri.  Waters is a prime candidate for the practice squad since he is only a rookie and is unlikely to get signed by anyone else.  He could end up as a nice backup tight end if he develops fully.

Brian Arnfelt

Arnfelt is by far the most disappointing cut that happened yesterday.  At the end of last season he got the chance to play when he was called up to the active roster he played pretty well.  Just like So’oto I thought Arnfelt had a chance, and a better one than Vic, to make the final roster.  He is another player who has eligibility for the practice squad.  So hopefully he doesn’t get signed by anyone else and he gets a chance to return to Pittsburgh and maybe get called up to the active roster.

There you have it.  Who were you most disappointed by who got cut?
