Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cleveland Browns: Tomlin Tuesday

It is officially Week 1 of the 2014 NFL Regular Season and with that the Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing to take on the Cleveland Browns. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media in his usual regular season weekly pressure to go over the matchup against the Browns, update the injuries, and preview the Steelers game plan.

"“It’s Cleveland, its AFC North football, it’s at Heinz and it’s our opener. If that doesn’t turn you on you don’t have a pulse.” – Mike Tomlin"

Tomlin began the pressure by going through the matchup against the Browns, specifically the quarterback situation the Steelers are preparing for. Tomlin had high praise for Brian Hoyer, who has spent some time as a Steelers back up back in 2012. The Steelers are preparing to face both Browns quarterbacks, as Tomlin realizes that Cleveland didn’t grab Johnny Football in the first round of the draft so he can stand on the sidelines. Knowing that they’ve lost their most explosive offensive weapon in Josh Gordon for the year, it’s obvious that the Browns will be utilizing Manziel on the field in Week 1, what that leads to along the way remains to be seen.

Tomlin addressed the injury situation of the team adding that everyone is relatively healthy at this point in time. Martavis Bryant did not practice on Monday and his status for Sunday is still unknown but long snapper Greg Warren is back and fully practicing with the team.

Coach Tomlin won’t reveal if running backs Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount were already punished internally or are still to face punishment from the organization for their marijuana possession charges and Bell’s DUI. His only response to a question about their possible internal punishment was “That will be between us.” He did, however, say that he thinks Bell is capable of 20-25 carries a game.

Addressing the punt and kick return duties Coach Tomlin explained that Antonio Brown and Dri Archer will handle the punt returns while Archer and Blount are to take the kick returns.

In the entire presser there were 16 “Obviously”‘s so he’s starting off strong for the season in that respect I suppose.
