Steelers Morning Huddle

Welcome to Week 1 of the 2014 NFL Regular season. The Steelers are preparing for facing the Cleveland Browns at home and we’re busy looking around for mentions of your Black & Gold so we’ve got you covered. Here’s what’s being said about your Pittsburgh Steelers around the block for Thursday, Sept. 4th.

Justin Brown could see first NFL action

ESPN Steelers reporter Scott Brown says that Steelers second-year wide receiver Justin Brown could be looking at seeing his very first NFL game this Sunday. Brown spent the 2013 season on the Steelers practice squad but with rookie Martavis Bryant nursing a shoulder injury and Lance Moore not practicing because of his groin, the odds are in favor for Justin Brown to be taking the field against the Browns.

Jarvis Jones is ready

A little over eight months ago the Steelers closed their season at home against the Cleveland Browns. On Sunday afternoon they’ll open the 2014 season against Cleveland as well. As Teresa Varley explains, second-year Jarvis Jones is ready for the regular season action.

“It’s a different temp. The roster is finalized. The game plan is strong. The season is on the line. Every game counts. We have to be in tune, understand what is going on and be ready. Then, it’s Cleveland. It’s our rival from up the road. We have to be ready. It’s week one, it’s the National Football League. I am very excited. It’s been a long time coming. We have been working tremendously hard around here. We are ready.” – Jarvis Jones

No more big plays

DK on Pittsburgh Sports caught up with Cameron Heyward after Wednesday’s practice about how the Steelers defense is setting the goal of limiting the big plays they allow this season. Last season the defense gave up eleven plays of 50+ yards and 17 plays of 40+ yards. Damn that’s a lot. So this years’ team is intent on keeping the big plays to a minimum while finding ways to create takeaways. Seems easy enough right? Should be a snap.
