Chuck Noll Tribute

The Pittsburgh Steelers encourage fans to arrive at Heinz Field early today for the game as prior to kickoff there will be a special tribute to the late Chuck Noll. Art Rooney II and Steelers Chairman Dan Rooney will present a commemorative helmet with the “CHN” logo to Noll’s widow, Marianne, and his son, Chris. Chuck Noll’s last game as head coach of the Steelers was against the Browns on December 22, 1991. The Steelers would win that game 17-10.

ESPN writers predict Steelers go 11-5

ESPN Steelers reporter Scott Brown had predicted the Steelers will go 10-6 this season but upon calculating with the fellow writers of NFL Nation, the consensus is that the Steelers will finish a game better at 11-5. Even Ravens writer and professional tool, Jamison Hensley predicted the Steelers will sweep Baltimore this year for the first time since 2008. Sounds good to me!

Steelers sign Cortez Allen to extension

The Steelers beat their self-imposed deadline of not negotiating contracts during the regular season by a few hours as they announced on Saturday night that they signed cornerback Cortez Allen to a five-year extension. Allen was in the final year of his rookie contract and will now be with the team through the 2018 season. NFL Network weasel Ian Rapoport reports the deal is worth $26 million. This leaves Jason Worilds as the only player who will be playing on the last year of his deal as he just signed the transition tag in the offseason and has not signed an extended deal. Also, extending Allen clearly means the team intends on trading Ben Roethlisberger any minute now. [sarcasm]
