Rogeez in trouble
Well the crap has pretty much hit the fan in the NFL. In the last 48 hours the NFL has gone from having a PR nightmare on its hands to a PR catastrophe. Tuesday evening Roger Goodell gave an interview to CBS Evening News where he asserted the claim that no one in the NFL had viewed or possessed the now infamous video of Ray Rice and his wife in the elevator in Atlantic City. On Wednesday afternoon the AP released a report saying law enforcement sources claim they not only gave the tape to an NFL executive, but they also have a voicemail recording confirming its receipt. The NFL quickly responded by continuing to assert the same half-assed lies about not being aware of the video until it was made public on Monday but that they would be “looking into” the AP’s claims. They’ve opened an independent investigation on how the league handled the whole thing that will be headed by former FBI director Robert S. Mueller III and overseen by NFL owners John Mara of the New York Giants and none other than Art Rooney II of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Troy could have not been a Steeler
CBS Sports weasel Jason La Canfora has a pretty good piece on the story of how the Steelers almost didn’t draft Troy Polamalu back in 2003. Steelers GM Kevin Colbert and then-coach Bill Cowher had intentions of signing safety Dexter Jackson, Super Bowl XXXVII MVP, as a free agent so their draft intentions were for a running back in the first round. While scouting on the west coast, they were informed that Jackson signed with Arizona and then they realized they had a chance at drafting Troy Polamalu out of USC instead. They ended up trading up in the first round to grab Troy and the rest is history.
Moore and Archer still out
Being that the Steelers are on a short week it’s not necessarily surprising that they will be without some of the players who were injured for Sunday’s game. Wide receiver Lance Moore and WR/RB Dri Archer have already been ruled out for Thursday night’s game against the Ravens, per Teresa Varley.
