Preparing for Kuechly
As the Steelers defense prepares to face Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers this Sunday night, the offense has a tall task of their own to handle. It comes in the form of containing former NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year linebacker Luke Kuechly. As Mike Prisuta points out, this is where safety Mike Mitchell comes in handy again, giving inside information on just how much of a football nut Kuechly really is.

LeBeau high on Steelers safeties
ESPN Steelers reporter Scott Brown explains that even though Steeler Nation was highly anticipating the combination of Mike Mitchell with Troy Polamalu on the field this season, the pair haven’t accounted for big plays so far this season. Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau confirmed his confidence in the pair and dismissed the idea that Mitchell is having a slow start because he’s getting used to playing alongside Polamalu. LeBeau is convinced that Mitchell and Polamalu can be “one of the best safety combinations in the league.” If they could start that, like Sunday night, that’d be great.
No fines for Mitchell or Polamalu
Speaking of the safety duo, neither one of them was fined by the league for their personal foul penalties in Thursday night’s 26-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Mitchell had two unnecessary roughness/leading with the helmet calls go against him while Polamalu racked up another but neither had one of those infamous envelopes in their locker’s this week from the league office according to Ed Bouchette of the PPG. I can’t honestly tell if I’m more frustrated or not that they didn’t get fined for those hits. It’s more frustrating to hear when the players get fined for hits that aren’t flagged on the field but when those particular hits get flagged you almost expect that they’ll get a fine too all in the name of “player safety”. Just seems inconsistent to me still.
