Steelers film study

ESPN Steelers reporter Scott Brown took a look at the game tape from the Steelers 27-24 loss to Tampa Bay on Sunday. In the film he discovered one area that needs immediate improvement. The lack of production from the outside linebackers on Sunday meant that the pressure on the quarterback was missing for most of the game. James Harrison played 27 snaps of the game but didn’t record a tackle or quarterback pressure. On the other side, Jason Worilds might as well have been see-through as he didn’t make any kind of impact whatsoever. In fact, he has only one sack and three quarterback pressures so far a quarter into the season. The pressure on the quarterback from the outside linebackers is an integral part of the 3-4 defense, these guys need to step it up.

Zebras in practice

As Mike Tomlin explained during his Tuesday press conference, he will be bringing in officials to the Steelers practice this week in an attempt to get the penalties under control. The Steelers are second in the league for penalty yards with 387, behind Washington’s 388 penalty yards. As Alan Robinson of the Trib points out, this would be an in-season first for the team as Tomlin has brought in officials during training camps and offseason practices but not during the season.

Roethlisberger on 2-2 Steelers

Ben Roethlisberger joined 93.7 The Fan for his usual Tuesday spot and addressed where he thinks the team is at this point in the season.

"“I feel like we are a good football team. I really do. I know we are 2-2 and some people probably had us at that some better, some worse. We are finding ways to shoot ourselves in the foot right now. I think if we can continue to play good football and in turn not shoot ourselves in the foot, I think that will transition into wins which we can hopefully start stacking those.” – Ben Roethlisberger"
