Countdown to Steelers @ Jags
Mike Prisuta counts down to the matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jacksonville Jaguars this afternoon. The historical record between the two teams has the Jaguars leading 12-10 with one post-season victory. The Jags are 7-4 at home against the Steelers with the Steelers taking the last two previous meetings between the two teams. The Steelers will be facing off against their former No. 1 draft pick, DE Ziggy Hood, who signed with the Jags as a free agent this offseason. Somehow I don’t think that facing off against Hood is striking fear in the hearts of anyone on the Steelers roster.
Elusive interceptions
The Steelers defense has one interception so far through the first four games of the season. This puts them on pace to pick of a staggering four passes the entire season says the PPG’s Ed Bouchette. One main reason for the lack of interceptions is the lack of pressure on the quarterback coming from the front seven. The linemen and linebackers get pressure on the quarterback, the defensive backs can benefit in the form of interceptions. That’s what the Steelers are hoping for anyway.
Worilds scheme
In case you haven’t noticed that you probably haven’t noticed Jason Worilds too much this season. After leading the Steelers in sacks last season and signing a $10 million transition tag tender in the offseason, Mark Kaboly of the Trib explains why Worilds has gone relatively unnoticeable so far through the first four games. He cites that the Steelers are employing him as an inside linebacker primarily on 3rd and long situations, instead of leaving him outside to put pressure on the quarterback. The formation involved Brett Keisel and either Arthur Moats or James Harrison rushing the passer from the outside. On the inside it puts Worilds in front of the inside linebackers. Hopefully they move into a formation in which Worilds actually does something productive instead though.
