Red zone struggles

The Steelers’ offensive struggles in the red zone could not be better illustrated through the statistics provided by ESPN Steelers reporter Scott Brown when he explains that the team is fourth in the NFL in total offense but 18^th in scoring. That means the play-calling has to be the culprit as the team is clearly able to put together drives but not able to convert those drives into touchdowns. The answer might just be in the hands of Le’Veon Bell, who has emerged as one of the league’s top running backs this season but has seen little-to-no touches when the Steelers are in striking distance. Figures that its Todd Haley’s fault am I right?

What’s the big deal?

Ben Roethlisberger joined Ron Cook and Andrew Fillipponi for his usual Tuesday appearance on 93.7 The Fan and naturally he was asked to defense the last-game pass to Antonio Brown as well. Ben explained that keeping Brown’s streak alive was important to him as well as his teammates and wishes everyone would just get over it.

Well look at that

Last week’s unreasonable outrage was due to an actual failed play, a failed 3^rd and 5 run/pass option play on the Steelers last possession in the loss to Tampa Bay that resulted in a 2-yard loss and set up the chain of events that included a bad punt and Buccaneers winning touchdown. According to the Trib’s Mark Kaboly, that same play presented itself in an equally critical situation for the Steelers late in Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. This time, however, the run-pass option was selected to be a pass and Heath Miller was open for a quick hit by Roethlisberger and a 13-yard gain and first down ensued. Pretty nice play when it works, isn’t it?
