Steelers Mike Tomlin Not A Fan Of ‘Elevator Music’

The Pittsburgh Steelers look simply awful against the Cleveland Browns last Sunday and took heavy criticism from the top media dogs all they to my own dog who decided to chew a hole in my Terrible Towel.

A well respected man who once coached the Steelers to a Super Bowl victory called out his former team on CBS’s Sunday post-game show.

"I never thought I would say these words but Pittsburgh has gotten soft.  I think they’re finesse on offense and soft on defense"

Scour around to see what people think about what former head coach Bill Cowher said about these current Steelers, and you won’t find many (if any at all) arguments countering his description.  Well there is someone who doesn’t agree…. or does he?

When asked Tuesday during his press conference what he thought about Cowher’s comments, as well as Hines Ward’s who also echoed Cowher’s statements Sunday evening, Mike Tomlin said,

"I don’t worry about that. That’s elevator music as far as I’m concerned.  I’m concerned about the things that are significant and that’s the men inside this organization right now and how they prepare and how they play. Love those guys, but those guys are on the outside looking in."

Well, I’m looking from the outside, and I can tell you that Cowher isn’t too far off from the reality of this situation.  Nice little jab by the way at someone who actually knows a thing or two about coaching a football team – elevator music?  But, what’s funny about this and Mike Tomlin is that if you piece together the week so far, Tomlin actually agrees with Cowher.  Just a day earlier on Monday, Tomlin told his players “they have not been tough enough both physically and mentally.”

Hmmmm.  Sounds “soft” to me.

I don’t know what music Mike Tomlin listens to, but he seems to secretly have a thing for that hypnotic Muzak.  I can tell you one thing – the fat lady is starting to warm up on this season if he can’t get his players to start playing physically and mentally tough enough.
